Alfriston is a heavy cropping apple tree widely grown and admired by the Victorians. It supposedly originated in the village of Alfriston in Sussex, but it was previously known under various other synonyms relating to a Mr Shepherd of Uckfield, also in Sussex. Alfriston's large and attractive bright green oblong apples keep well and are best thinned in June.

The rootstock for all our apple trees is the most vigorous available. We try to offer as many apple varieties as we can on M25 rootstock, which will produce the standard trees of a traditional orchard, where they would be planted between 6 and 8 metres apart. MM106, or M106, produces a good sized garden tree. Please refer to our size guide for details.

Like all our apple trees, we offer Alfriston bare root, so they are only available between November and April. During lifting season, there will be a delay between placing the order and dispatching due to pressure of orders, which are dealt with in date sequence, and the weather. Orders taken from June-October will be confirmed in late October/ early November after a nursery stock take, for dispatch from November.
