Shimizu Hakuto Peach Tree

2026 Special Fruit Tree Release – Happiest Plants

Introducing one of the most celebrated peach trees in the world: Shimizu Hakuto. Carefully sourced and arranged behind the scenes by us at HappiestPlants, this is a truly special release made available to our customers worldwide for 2026. Availability is extremely restricted - once this batch is sold out, we wouldn't have anymore for the rest of the year. Each tree is carefully prepared to ensure it arrives healthy and ready to thrive in your garden.

Why Shimizu Hakuto Is Considered One of the Best Peaches in the World

Often referred to as “the Queen of Peaches”, Shimizu Hakuto is a premier, high-end white peach variety and widely regarded as one of the finest peaches ever cultivated.

Key reasons for its world-class reputation include:

Luxury-grade sweetness – Exceptionally high natural sugar levels with a refined, elegant flavour rather than sharp acidity.

Melting, snow-white flesh – Extremely soft, delicate, and bursting with juice when ripe.

Highly fragrant aroma – Intensely perfumed, a signature trait of elite Japanese peaches.

Pale, translucent skin – Creamy white skin with a gentle pink blush, prized for its beauty but also famously fragile.

Low acidity – Smooth, gentle taste that appeals even to those who normally avoid peaches.

In Japan, Shimizu Hakuto is classed as a luxury fruit. Commercial growers meticulously care for each fruit, traditionally bagging every single peach on the tree by hand to protect the delicate skin from blemishes and sun damage. This labour-intensive process is one of the reasons this variety commands such prestige.

A Brief History

Shimizu Hakuto was discovered in 1932 as a chance seedling in Okayama Prefecture, Japan - a region famously known as the “Land of Sunshine” due to its ideal fruit-growing climate.

From its discovery, the variety quickly gained recognition for its unmatched texture, fragrance, and sweetness. Over the decades, it became a cornerstone of Okayama’s fruit production and an icon of Japanese horticultural excellence.

Because of its extreme delicacy, short harvest season (late August to early September), and the intensive care required to grow it well, Shimizu Hakuto peaches are often sold individually as high-end gifts, sometimes commanding remarkable prices.

Authentic Shimizu Hakuto trees have traditionally been very difficult to source outside Japan, which makes this 2026 release particularly special.

Why Pruning Is a Blessing in Disguise

While pruning may sound like a compromise, it actually mirrors best practice used by top growers and offers major long-term benefits:

Encourages multiple offshoots, rather than a single tall stem.

Creates a bushier, stronger structure capable of supporting fruit.

Helps prevent the tree from becoming overloaded, which is essential for maintaining high sugar levels.

Leads to more flowering wood and ultimately higher-quality fruit.

Improves airflow and light penetration, reducing disease risk.

Planting & Care Guide

Planting
Ensure the roots are planted into well-prepared ground, allowing plenty of space for them to spread and establish without restriction. Dig a generous planting hole so the roots can be positioned naturally rather than cramped.

Soil Type
Best suited to moderately fertile, well-drained soil. This variety does not tolerate acidic conditions, so neutral to slightly alkaline soil is ideal. If possible, prepare the planting area in advance to improve soil structure and drainage.

Watering & Feeding
Young trees require regular, thorough watering, especially during their first few growing seasons. Apply a suitable fertiliser each spring to encourage healthy growth. In April, mulching around the base of the tree with well-rotted manure or compost will help retain moisture and improve soil fertility (avoid direct contact with the trunk).

Position & Support
Plant in a sunny, sheltered location, as peach trees do not perform well in shade or exposed conditions. A sturdy stake should be used at planting time and left in place for at least five years to support the developing tree.

Flowering & Fruiting
Trees typically blossom and flower in spring, with fruit usually ready for harvesting throughout autumn.

Protection
Netting is recommended to protect the tree and developing fruit from birds, helping to ensure a successful harvest.

A Truly Special Peach Tree

This is not an everyday fruit tree. Shimizu Hakuto is a world-class peach variety, steeped in history and luxury, and now available in limited numbers through HappiestPlants.

Perfect for collectors, fruit enthusiasts, and anyone who wants to grow one of the finest peaches on earth.

They look good and seem well built.

These are very well made and look really good. They ended up being too small for my need, but that was my fault on measurements. I would highly recommend if you are looking for corner shelves.
