New Hampshire by Robert Frost

Beautiful woodcut illustrations by J.J. Lankes accompany the timeless poetry of Robert Frost in New Hampshire, which includes such famous works as “Fire and Ice” and “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.” Frost’s poetry perfectly captures the New England landscape, seasons, and communities, and this collection would make a wonderful gift.

It also may inspire readers to go see the places where his spirit lives on, like the Robert Frost Stone House Museum in Bennington, Vt., whose interiors walls are painted with Frost’s words; The Robert Frost Farm in Derry, N.H.; and The Frost Place in Franconia, N.H., where artist residencies are awarded every summer to aspiring poets. —Heather Marcus, Yankee senior photo editor

A Vintage Classics edition of Frost's 1923 collection of poems that won the Pulitzer Prize and contains some of his most famous and beloved poems. Includes the original woodcut illustrations, not in print elsewhere.

It contains some of his most enduring and best-known poems, including "Nothing Gold Can Stay," "Fire and Ice," "The Need of Being Versed in Country Things," and "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening." Included in this edition are the original woodcut illustrations of rural scenes, done in the Arts and Crafts style by J. J. Lankes.

ROBERT FROST (1874-1963) is widely regarded as one of America's finest poets. He was born in San Francisco, and when he was ten his father died and he and his mother moved to New England. He attended school at Dartmouth and Harvard, worked in a mill, taught, and took up farming, before moving to England, where his first book of poetry was published in 1913. In 1915 he returned to the United States and settled on a farm in New Hampshire. Frost was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry on four occasions and served as Consultant in Poetry at the Library of Congress.

Excellent Tool for Approaching Homer via English
Format: Hardcover
I love the Loeb editions of Homer. I've already ready the Odyssey, now moving on to the Iliad. What I've especially started to enjoy with this volume of the Iliad is the editors decision to "call out" which lines were rejected by which ancient commentators (Aristarchus, etc.). This adds some fun to the reading because you get to review the line in Greek and try to surmise why they rejected it, or how the passage would work without the line. The translation is reasonably modern but still "lordly" and has the tone of a war epic. It was enjoyable to read aloud in both English and Greek.
