Peacock Spiny Eel Macrognathus Siamensis 10cmOverview: The Peacock Spiny Eel, known scientifically as Macrognathus siamensis, is a unique and captivating freshwater fish, celebrated for its slender body and vibrant patterns. Often mistaken for a true eel due to its elongated shape, it is actually part of the spiny eel family. This species can grow up to 8 inches in length and is characterized by its striking coloration, which includes a mix of yellows, browns, and a peacock-like pattern that dazzles under aquarium lights.
Origin: Native to the freshwater bodies of Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand and Cambodia, the Peacock Spiny Eel thrives in slow-moving waters with plenty of hiding spots. Its natural habitat is rich in vegetation and soft substrates, which it uses for burrowing and protection.
Feeding: In the aquarium, Peacock Spiny Eels are carnivorous, requiring a diet rich in meaty foods. They do well with live and frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and small fish. They have a nocturnal feeding tendency, so it's best to feed them during the late hours when they are most active.
Tank Mates: Choosing the right tank mates is crucial for the Peacock Spiny Eel. They are best housed with peaceful, similarly sized fish to avoid any potential predation. Small, fast-swimming fish may be seen as prey, so it's advisable to avoid very small tank mates. Suitable companions include larger tetras, gouramis, and bottom-dwelling species that do not compete for hiding spots.
Aggression: Peacock Spiny Eels are generally peaceful towards other fish but can become territorial with their own kind or similar-looking species. It's important to provide ample space and hiding places if keeping more than one spiny eel to prevent aggression.
Experience Level: Due to their specific care requirements and sensitivity to water quality, Peacock Spiny Eels are best suited for intermediate to advanced aquarists. Proper tank setup, regular maintenance, and careful monitoring of water conditions are essential for their well-being.
Water Parameters: The ideal water conditions for Peacock Spiny Eels include a temperature range of 75-82°F (24-28°C), pH levels between 6.5 and 7.5, and soft to moderately hard water. Regular water changes and a well-filtered tank are crucial to remove toxins and provide a stable environment.
In summary, the Peacock Spiny Eel is a fascinating addition to any freshwater aquarium, offering beauty and intrigue with its unique appearance and behavior. With the right care, they can be a joy to watch and a testament to the diversity of aquatic life.

Soft, medium quality
Ok value for the money and doggies liked it. Not very durable but certainly more durable than some. Stitching is good and is ok - good toy overall but nothing exciting and not super durable though far better than some toys that just fall apart. And if your dog isn’t a toy killer this will be a great toy!

My dog Ed gives it two paws up
I have four dogs. One is completely in love with his toys. One is so so about them. The two others have no interest. I got this for the so so dog and he liked it, but only in small intervals. He left it for my other toy loving dog, Ed. For him, it was love at first bite. He took it and happily cuddled with it, threw it around, and watched with an adoring look at the flailing arms. The little squeaks thrilled him (to the chagrin of one of the other dogs who hates squeaks). Definitely a great buy and super cute.

Not the most durable, but it is a quality toy
I bought this as a gift for my friend's mini dachund and I knew she would love it because of the long legs and how soft it is. She loved it alright. So much that she ripped the ear off in the first 10 minutes of having it. It's not durable, given a year old mini weenie can rip it, but it is a good toy for the dogs that don't choose death for every toy they have.
