Gay Tales. Phil Stern. Frank Sinatra Has A Cold

“Sinatra with a cold is Picasso without paint, Ferrari without fuel―only worse. For the common cold robs Sinatra of that uninsurable jewel, his voice, cutting into the core of his confidence.” ― Gay Talese

In the winter of 1965, writer Gay Talese set out for Los Angeles with an assignment from Esquire to write a major profile on Frank Sinatra. When he arrived, he found the singer and his vigilant entourage on the defensive: Sinatra was under the weather, not available, and not willing to be interviewed.Undeterred, Talese stayed, believing Sinatra might recover and reconsider, and used the meantime to observe the star and to interview his friends, associates, family members, and hangers-on. Sinatra never did grant the one-on-one, but Talese’s tenacity paid off: his profile Frank Sinatra Has a Cold went down in history as a tour de force of literary nonfiction and the advent of the New Journalism. In this illustrated edition, Frank Sinatra Has a Cold is published with an introduction by Talese, reproductions of his manuscript pages, and correspondence. Interwoven are photographs from the legendary lens of Phil Stern, the only photographer granted access to Sinatra over four decades, as well as from top photojournalists of the ’60s, including John Bryson, John Dominis, and Terry O’Neill. The photographs complement Talese’s character study, painting an incisive portrait of Sinatra in the recording studio, on location, out on the town, and with the eponymous cold, which reveals as much about a singular star persona as it does about the Hollywood machine.

Culinary grade matcha. Its okay for mixing in small amounts with other flavors to drink
Flavor Name: Culinary Matcha-3.53oz
I ordered this Matcha for the affordability. The matcha I’ve been drinking is more expensive and as I have been drinking more Matcha lately I wanted to try to get more for my money. Now, I don’t want to sound like a Matcha snob, but I really wasn’t happy with the quality or the taste of this Matcha. It was lower quality than I was expecting. First of all it’s a duller green color, which is just appearance I understand and I can overlook that, but it says something about the quality of the harvest. The taste, however, is much more bitter than I am accustomed to. Not an enjoyable clean Matcha flavor. I have found that it absolutely needs some sweetener and milk to make it passable and I’ve even mixed a little cocoa powder with it to mask the dusty flavor. That helps. Also, it is not ground very finely as other Matcha powders. I can feel the Matcha particulate in the tea when I drink it and it settles to the bottom of the cup very quickly. If you’re going to be cooking with Matcha, then this is fine. Or if you are going to be mixing it with milk and sweetener or other flavors, then this isn’t too bad. But if you like to enjoy the pure flavor of Matcha tea with nothing added to it then I would not recommend this one, it’s pretty harsh. Still, it is very affordable and it can get you through when money is tight.
