Still Struggling With Inconsistent Heat, Flare-Ups, and “Dead Coals”?

You spend good money on meat. You prep. You season. You’ve got mates coming over. Or orders lined up in your kitchen.

You light the grill… and then?

Nothing goes to plan.

The heat doesn’t come on fast enough.
It spikes and drops without warning.
You’re left juggling vents and hoping it’ll “settle”.
Half the charcoal burns out too soon.
The other half? Still barely lit.
You end up using twice as much fuel just to get half the result.

Sound familiar?

You're not alone.

We surveyed over 500 Aussie grillers – backyard warriors, restaurant chefs, and hardcore pitmasters alike.

And the message was loud and clear:

“Most charcoal sucks.”

It doesn’t burn hot enough.
It doesn’t burn long enough.

It doesn't light easily.
And it doesn’t burn clean enough.

That’s Exactly Why We Made…

Wattle & Flame – Classic Lump Charcoal

(35–70mm Grade)
Kiln-Fired Mallee Root Charcoal | 100% Australian | No Fillers, No Bullsh*t

Why Classic Size?

Our 35–70mm Classic Grade is the perfect everyday performer.

Big enough to retain serious heat and long burns, but not so oversized that you lose control or have to wait ages for it to light. It’s your go-to size for versatile grilling whether you’re searing steaks, slow-roasting chicken, or firing up the whole smoker.

Real Results. Real Firepower.

Here’s what you can expect with Wattle & Flame Classic Charcoal on your grill:

Lights Faster Than You’d Believe

No more wasting time with stubborn coals.
Kiln-firing removes moisture and volatile compounds—so our charcoal catches faster and is ready to cook sooner.

Burns Hot. Stays Hot.

You’ll get up to 450–500°C searing heat, perfect for locking in that crust and flavour.
No more fighting low temps or flare-ups—just consistent, controllable heat you can rely on.

Burns Longer, So You Use Less

Premium Mallee root = denser fuel = more energy per kilo.
Our Classic Charcoal can burn for up to 6-9 hours, depending on airflow and setup.
Less topping up. Less hassle. More time doing what you love.

Low Ash = Less Mess

Who wants to deal with mountains of ash clogging their grill mid-session?
Our charcoal burns clean and efficiently—leaving behind less waste, so you can spend more time grilling and less time scooping.

Made From Mallee Root. Not Mystery Wood.

We only use hard, dense Australian Mallee root, sustainably harvested and 100% chemical free.
No softwood. No accelerants. No crap.
Just pure Aussie hardwood charcoal, the way it should be.

Hand-Selected. Kiln-Fired. Locally Made.

Unlike mass-produced imports, we make every batch ourselves.
Each bag of our Classic Mallee Root Lump Charcoal is crafted in regional NSW, from kiln-fired production made in small batches—so you know you’re getting top-tier quality, every time.

This Isn’t Just Charcoal.

It’s The Missing Ingredient in Your Grill Game.

Because when the fuel’s wrong, everything’s wrong.
The meat doesn’t taste right.
The fire doesn’t feel right.
And grilling becomes a chore instead of a joy.

But when the fuel is right?

Everything changes.

Food tastes better.
Heat is predictable.
And your mates will swear you’ve “levelled up”.

If pump doesn't seem to work
Size: For 85-300 HP, Size: For 85-300 HP
Hi....I apologize it took me a while to get back to you with my results. Here is what I discovered about the pump and will also apply to some of the other comments I read in the reviews with people not getting the pump to work: 1.) I removed the pump to check the proper direction of the impeller and it was correct as can be seen in the photo. 2.) I built a pump shaft attachement so that I could operate the pump with a power drill. 3.) I attached the water muff to the unit and tried to pump water.....it wouldn't do so. What I did see however was that even at high hose discharge and small leakage at the muff I could not fill the water cavity in the housing. 4.) I installed a strap around the muff and tightened it very tight and THEN at high hose pressure I was able to get the cavity to fill with water. 5.) At that point I activated the drill and was able to get the pump to actually pump water. I then removed the pump housing and removed the O-Ring that resides on top of the impeller, reassembled and it would not pump water. Since the O-Ring sits higher than the original does I wanted to make sure that it was necessary to have it in the pump. 6.) I reassembled the engine and kept the tight strap on the bottom and finally it pumped water into the engine. My conclusion that you can reply to other buyers if they have a problem: Do NOT underestimate 2 things....1.)the lack of ability of the pump to draw water up AND 2.)the fact that if the muff leaks it will NOT fill the cavity when common sense says it should. This was a 120hp Johnson. The engine bottom must be immersed fully or the muff must be very tight on the lower unit for the pump to function. Please feel free to post this if you wish.
