Materials and workmanship
Here, attention is undoubtedly drawn to the handle. It is made of different types of wood put together, which gives it its unmistakable puzzle pattern. Its rounded shape ensures that it fits perfectly in the hand, making it child's play to use. The flat base is made of stainless steel, as are the spacer rings, which you can remove individually to configure the height of the press to your liking. Hauck calls this concept 'MyFit Design'. The upper part is coated with silicone for a firmer grip. This tamper has a low and balanced centre of gravity, which makes it easier to handle.

How is this tamper used correctly?
The tamper is used to press the ground coffee into the filter holder. To do this correctly, the tamper is positioned from above and pushed downwards in a gentle rotating motion so that the contents of the portafilter are evenly compacted. This allows the hot water to flow through the entire disc of coffee powder with the same resistance, in order to obtain a balanced espresso. This process requires some practice and a levelling accessory may come in handy, which ensures perfect distribution of the powder before pressing.
