 When a Pashmina is chosen for Kalamkari, it has to be sent to an artist called Kalamkar(a specialist of Kalamkari). Kalamkar uses materials like bamboo or other wooden pens with flat nibs called Kalams, dips them in inks which are made from vegetable derived pigments, and creates marvellous designs all over the lush fabric.

It is later hand embroidered in multicoloured threads to make the motifs more prominent and beautiful.
