I am fascinated with the symbiosis of the lion as a symbol of monarchy and the monarch butterfly. Using the play on the word "monarch" to represent the majesty and royalty of the Lion, with the monarch butterfly creates a visually and metaphorically captivating subject matter. This painting visualises the butterfly as a messenger to the royal lion, bringing whatever message resonates with the viewer, while the gold circle brings the two subjects together in unity.
About the artist.
Robbie Erskine is a contemporary fine artist from Brisbane, Australia known for her magical realism and surrealist works depicting the animal kingdom. She has achieved a Bachelor of Fine Art, a Diploma in Visual Art and a Bachelor of Graphic Design and has been painting and drawing for over 25 years. Her practice has developed over this time, with the focus on creating artworks of the animal kingdom with a surrealist twist, a whimsical twist, a narrative, a spiritual element, or a comment on the environment. Her award-winning works have been included in group exhibitions both in the gallery setting or online shows, and her art is held in private collections in both Australia and internationally.
Collection or delivery.
This item is part of the Plant Empire Small Wonders Exhibition 2026, on display from 9 May - 7 June. Exhibition items are available for sale in person or online. In the unlikely event that a customer purchases the item in-store at the same time as it is sold online, we will refund the online purchase - thank you in advance for your understanding if this situation does occur.
