artist biography
Tage Evert Törning was a Swedish artist and illustrator born 27 September, 1925 in Torpa, Kronoberg County.
Törning studied under artist Hjalmar Eldh at the Slöjdföreningens skola in Gothenburg 1944–1946, with artist Endre Nemes at Valand's målarskola 1947–1950 and and during study trips to the Netherlands, France, Spain and Italy. He has worked with figures, animals and landscape motifs in oil and watercolour. His early works were influenced by the Surrealists and later developed with an increased colourism within the Gothenburg tradition.
He exhibited extensively throughout his career. Select solo exhibitions include: Lorensbergs Konstsalong in Göteborg 1956 and 1958, Lilla Konstsalongen in Malmö 1960, Krognoshuset in Lund 1961, De Unga in Stockholm 1961, Norrköpings Museum in 1963, Konsthallen Göteborg in 1963, Kavaletten in Uppsala 1966, Galleri F15, Norway in 1966 and 1976, Klippans Kulturreservat in Göteborg 1969, Konstnärshuset 1969, Skövde Konsthall in 1974, Galleri Gripen in Karlstad 1974, Galleri Bild och Form in Västerås 1976, Galleri Talgoxen in Sundsvall 1976, and many others right up until 1997.
His work is represented at the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, Moderna Muséet in Stockholm, Göteborgs Konstmuseum, Malmö Museum, and in Norrköping's Museum.
Törning was married to textile artist Lil Erie Margareta Johansson. He passed away in 2012.
