This antique pendant (circa 1900–1910) features a beautifully detailed peacock, its plumage adorned with glittering marcasites and its body set with a luminous opal doublet. The jewel captures the elegance of Edwardian and Art Nouveau design, when peacocks were celebrated as symbols of beauty, immortality, and renewal.
The piece is crafted in gold-washed sterling silver and measures 1.3 inches from the top of the jump ring to the base by 1 inch across. The metal content has been confirmed through XRF (x-ray fluorescence) analysis and traditional jeweler’s acid testing, ensuring authenticity.
In good condition, the pendant shows light wear consistent with age, including small nibbles to the edge of the opal doublet visible only under magnification. A graceful and symbolic jewel, it offers both the sparkle of marcasite and the iridescent play-of-color of opal—a timeless addition to any antique collection.
