High-speed Autofocus

The focusing mechanism of the Sony 12-24mm lens comprises of a total of four XD Linear Motors, two for each lens focus group. The advanced system utilises the maximum speed potential featured in high-performance camera bodies to drive a fast, smooth, and near-silent autofocus operation – beneficial for capturing action stills and videos with enhanced audio. The Linear Response MF ensures that the focus ring is responsive for subtle control when using manual focus.

Efficient Handling

To ensure better handling, Sony have incorporated intuitive controls; A focus mode switch that allows for instant switching between auto and manual focus modes; A customisable focus hold button that offers focus hold control but is also customisable so the user can assign other functions for efficient shooting.

Superb Lens Configuration

The lens configuration of the Sony 12-24mm lens is made up of 14 groups and 17 elements, including three XA (eXtreme Aspherical) lens elements [1], one aspherical lens [2], two Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lens elements [3], and three ED glass elements [4]. The XA elements combine with one aspherical element to achieve G Master resolution throughout the image, and the Super ED and ED elements are strategically arranged to supress optical aberrations, including chromatic aberration. This innovative optical design achieves stunning edge-to-edge sharpness throughout the range and across the frame.

Combatting Ghosting and Flare

Using the new Nano AR Coating II on the large lens elements/highly curved element surfaces, internal reflections are significantly supressed to ensure flare and ghosting is eliminated. Even when working in difficult light, such as backlighting, the wide-angle images remain crisp and sharp with high contrast throughout the entire zoom range. The included lens hood contributes towards blocking unwanted light.

Compact, Lightweight, and Durable

The Sony 12-24mm lens features a dust and moisture resistant design for overall protection and reliability needed when working outside. The front lens element has a fluorine coating to repel water, oil, and other contaminants whilst also making it easier to clean if contaminants do become attached. The included lens cap locks securely for extra protection when transporting.

The innovative optical design has ensured this lens is small, compact, and lightweight, weighing only 847g, which is great for extra mobility and smooth operation.
