“Iván de la Nuez transforms art criticism into an art form.” —Letras Libres
Theory of the Rearguard examines how contemporary art is in tension with survival, rather than in relation to life. In the twentieth century, Peter Bürger’s Theory of the Avant-Garde was a cult book focused on the two main tasks that art demanded at the time: to break its representation and to destroy the barrier that separated it from life.
Forty years later, The Theory of the Rearguard is an ironic manifesto about contemporary art and its failures, even though Iván de la Nuez does not waste his time mourning it or disguising it. He argues that our times are not characterized by the distance between art and life, but by a tension between art and survival, which is the continuation of life by any means necessary.
In the twenty-first century, Iván de la Nuez examines art in relationship to politics, iconography, and literature. This austere and sharp book—in which Duchamp stumbles upon Lupe, the revolution upon the museum, Paul Virilio upon Joan Fontcuberta or Fukuyama upon Michael Jackson—wonders if contemporary art will ever end. Because if it were mortal—“just as mortal as everything it invokes or examines under its magnifying glass”—de la Nuez argues would be worth writing an epitaph for it as he has done in this sparkling book of art criticism.

Fantastic Product
I bought these hangers to mount my speakers. They are heavy duty, has a curl at the end to keep the speakers from falling off, and I was able to mount them and have clearance underneath. Awesome!!

Does it's purpose with style
We used these in our pantry and dining room for shelves and they turned out well. The only reason they are hard to install is because of the design (which is very nice) so it is worth it. It just takes time when you you are hanging the shelves, to do it correctly. While they can hold a lot, we realized that a bunch of cans or jars cannot go on these shelves. Luckily we had another option for heavy items (Example: We had about 40ish pounds of cans/jars on a 1x12 board that is 33 inches long with 2 of these brackets...and it was too much). If you do not need to hold a lot of weight, these shelves are a for sure, for the price and quality. If you NEED they for something heavy, then you probably will have to go with something more practical from a hardware store. We LOVE them for our pantry!

Worked as intended
Hubby used these to mount a shelf above a long span of windows. They worked great and allowed a clean visual appearance.

Nice brackets
These are nice sturdy brackets for butcher block shelf however they do bend a bit. We installed in a corner so was able to pin to side wall no problems on big shelf. The smaller shelf about 18” moves a bit up and down when loading. Now very little and no worries about it but not rock solid
