Export Stout, London, 1890 – 12 x 330ml Case

A recipe drawn from the past, reimagined for the present.

Our Export Stout is based on a 19th-century recipe from the Truman Brewery on Brick Lane. We’ve used it as a foundation, then slowly adapted it to suit our palate. What began as a faithful historical recreation has become something richer, more balanced – still bold, but more drinkable.

Beer Details

  • Style: Export Stout
  • Size: 12x300ml Case
  • Malt: Maris Otter, brown, black, chocolate, crystal
  • Hops: Varies from batch to batch
  • Yeast: American ale yeast

Tasting Notes

The black malt brings roasted coffee, burnt toast, and a sharp, assertive acidity. To soften that edge, we’ve added chocolate malt and a touch of crystal for sweetness. The result is a dark, oily beer with weight and warmth – rich with dried fruit, smoke, leather, and the kind of herbal hop bitterness that cuts through just enough.

You’ll also find notes of tar, chocolate, and just a hint of alcohol heat. Deep and complex, this is a beer that invites time and attention.

Why You’ll Love It

  • A reinterpretation of a historic London Export Stout, made to be bold but balanced.

  • Packed with dark malt character – roasted coffee, chocolate, dried fruit, smoke.

  • Ideal for slow drinking, cellaring, or pairing with rich, savoury food.

High Quality
This tool has very nice weight (all metal) and very nice machined finish. Feels very premium without the premium price. Well thought out with the magnetic base or 3m double sided tape included. Nice that they included replacement needles. Would definitely buy again.

Works great and is affordable!
Color: Black
Works great! The magnet it comes with is quite weak. But the tool itself works great.

No gimmicks, just a solid WDT tool
Color: Metal Black
This is the second Aieve product I’ve purchased, after a very good experience with their XL espresso cooling ball. This WDT tool isn’t flashy, it doesn’t look like a praying mantis or deploy like a switchblade; but it does exactly what it’s supposed to do. The tool sits in a nicely weighted base that protects the needles from bending, which is a big improvement over the magnetic “floating” styles. The base has enough weight to stay put, and it’s easy to remove and return the tool without it tipping or sliding around. The base itself fits nicely in my tamping station. It also comes with replacement needles, which are simple to swap out when needed. If you’ve been going down the rabbit hole comparing every WDT tool out there, this is a straightforward, well-designed option at a very reasonable price.

Solid 4mm WDT tool with a solid stand and a magnet option for some machines.
Color: Black
Solid WDT tool with good hand feel and convenient counter top stand. 4mm needles and it works fine. 10 of these 4mm needles adequately stir the espresso in the portafilter. No real complaints about build quality. I attached the included magnet. There are many people who have identified that the magnet is not strong. This is true but it depends on the materials on your espresso machine or grinder. On stainless steel units (unpainted or thinly painted) it has good adhesion. On units that might have used thick paint ( which shouldn't be compromised) it may not stick well. So I took a star off--I do have a stainless steel Espresso machine and it sticks fine. It also stuck ok to my refrigerator , microwave and airfryer. If your espresso station is near other appliances---well there you go--also it does show that it "can stick" to fairly common other magnetic materials. My refrigerator is coated in white . I was going to simply buy acupuncture needles, a wine cork and make one of these but add those costs together and heck $9 for this unit with a stand was a great deal.
