Overview

Mossel Bay is a coastal town on the southern Cape coast of the Western Cape, built around a natural bay that has sheltered mariners and traders for centuries. Today it is a popular stop on the Garden Route, known for its beaches, the historic Bartolomeu Dias Museum complex, and shark cage diving. The town also has a significant industrial dimension as home to PetroSA's gas-to-liquids refinery, one of the largest of its kind in the world.

Whilst this map focuses on the old town and harbour of Mossel Bay on the Cape St Blaize peninsula, it also includes the following suburbs: Hartenbos and Bay View to the north, Kwanonqaba to the east and Dana Bay and Pinnacle Point along the southern coast. All road and rail infrastructure is shown.

Map Design and Paper

The map is an original creation by our design studio at Africa Map Art. Data for this map has been compiled from various up-to-date sources including from the OpenStreetMap contributors. The map is available in four styles and on the following two paper options and canvas: a high quality 210gsm heavyweight coated paper with a matte finish, which achieves excellent colour and resolution and is perfect for framing;  a 260gsm photo paper with a smooth satin finish;  and a 350gsm strengthened canvas. All of the options are shipped in a cardboard roll for protection. The canvas is unstretched and unframed.

History

Mossel Bay, a town with a rich maritime history, is believed to be the first place in South Africa where European explorers made contact with indigenous people. In 1488, Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias became the first European to land here, establishing a historical landmark known as the Post Office Tree. This ancient milkwood tree served as a mail collection point for passing sailors. The sheltered bay drew subsequent traders and settlers, and the town grew as a coastal ribbon along the shoreline, its streets and buildings pressed between the sea and the low ridge behind it. By the nineteenth century it had become a regional port serving the wool and ostrich feather trades of the Cape interior.

Powerful and silent!
Color: Lux Metallic Blue, Size: Rechargeable Z1 Motor Max
Wow, call me impressed! I just got the rechargeable version in blue and it's gorgeous! The metal shaft is thick, high quality and long enough to reach the bottom of a tall mug. And the double whip end works like magic. I had a cheaper frother (another brand) and this one blows it away! I couldn't even get much of a froth with my other one and having to hold the button the whole time was annoying. One press of this button and my milk was frothed in seconds. I didn't even use the higher setting! My morning latte is very happy.

Powerful, rechargeable battery, easy to use & clean
Color: Lux Absolute Silver, Size: Rechargeable Z1 Motor Max
2 speeds, easy to change back and forth to different speeds with one click , easily blends 1/4 cup protein powder in 12 oz milk on low speed. Easy to clean: Stick blending wand in tall glass with warm water + dish soap, turn on low speed to clean easily (don’t stick the part that holds the battery in glass). Also of note, chosen by Americas Test Kitchen as best milk frother but I use it to make protein shakes.

Works great on bullet coffee!!
Color: Lux Alpha Black, Size: Rechargeable Z1 Motor Max
I am really pleased with this frother! Frothers I have used in the past didn’t mix my decaf coffee, 2% milk, and MCT oil as thoroughly as I like (oil and coffee separated). This frother blends everything AND I get a nice layer of frothy milk on top!!! Charge lasts a long and the froth can be submerged all the way up to the button!!!

reliable filters at a great price
Pattern Name: 16x20x1, Style: Merv 8
I've been using these Amazon Basics air filters for a while now, and they've been a great value. They fit perfectly, are easy to install, and do a good job of trapping dust, pollen, and other airborne particles. Since switching to these filters, I've noticed less dust around the house and my HVAC system seems to run efficiently. The MERV 8 rating provides solid everyday filtration without restricting airflow.

Amazon Basics MERV 11 Filters: Solid Performance Without the Premium Price
Pattern Name: 20x20x1, Style: Merv 11
Amazon Basics MERV 11 Filters: Solid Performance Without the Premium Price I’ve been using these Amazon Basics 20x20x1 MERV 11 filters in my home HVAC system, and overall they’ve been a very dependable option for routine filter changes. I like buying them in a 6-pack because it takes the hassle out of remembering to reorder every couple of months, and the per-filter cost is noticeably lower than the big-name brands at the hardware store. Installation is straightforward. The actual size fits my return slot properly with no bending or forcing, and airflow has remained strong. With MERV 11, these strike a nice balance for my setup — noticeably better dust and pollen capture than basic MERV 5 or 8 filters, but without putting obvious strain on the system. After about a month of use, the filters clearly show they’re doing their job, collecting a visible layer of dust and fine debris. A few things to keep in mind. The cardboard frame isn’t as rigid as some premium filters, and they’re a bit thinner than brands like Filtrete. They’ve held up fine for me during normal use, but I wouldn’t try to stretch them much past the recommended replacement interval. Also, if you have an older or low-powered HVAC system, MERV 11 may be more filtration than you need — in that case, a lower MERV option might make more sense. Bottom line: These Amazon Basics MERV 11 filters are a practical, budget-friendly choice that deliver solid filtration and good airflow for regular HVAC maintenance, as long as you stick to timely replacements and don’t expect premium-brand rigidity.
