Why is Spanish cedar the reference wood for humidors?
Spanish cedar (Cedrela odorata) has been the historical wood for all premium humidors since the 19th century. Its hygroscopic properties allow it to slowly absorb and release moisture, which buffers sudden changes in ambient humidity and maintains a stable microclimate around your cigars — an essential condition for preserving their aromatic oils over time.
Beyond regulation, its natural terpenes diffuse into the confined air of the humidor and gradually enrich the tobacco's aromas with a subtle woody and spicy note. Cedar also possesses a valuable defensive quality: it repels the tobacco beetle (Lasioderma serricorne), a small devastating beetle capable of destroying an entire collection. A humidor made entirely of cedar offers incomparably superior preservation to an MDF humidor with simple interior veneer.

Preparing the JANGO before first use (seasoning)
Needle hygrometer — precision and complement. The included analog hygrometer offers an accuracy of ±5%, perfectly suited for routine monitoring of a tasting collection. For precious cigars or finer reference control (±1 to 2%), consider a digital precision hygrometer placed inside as a complement.
Distilled water only. Never refill the crystal humidifier with tap water: limescale clogs the crystals and drastically reduces their effectiveness. Distilled water can be found in pharmacies or supermarkets (ironing section) for a few cents.
