Welcome to the Understanding & Preventing Workplace Violence & Aggression in Healthcare training course. This course has been designed to improve your ability to recognise and understand the causes of client related occupational violence in health care settings and some common strategies to prevent it and manage the risk it poses.

After completing this course, you will have a better understanding of:

• The nature of workplace violence in healthcare settings including prevalence, scope, and cost
• The legal and policy frameworks that are associated with violence and aggression in healthcare settings
• steps you can take to prepare for and prevent incidents of violence or aggression, including the environment-situational-patient (ESP) risk assessment framework
• The assault cycle
• Steps you can take to control a person as they progress through each phase of an assault cycle
• There are many things you can to help control violent individuals.
• The key responsibilities for employees and employers following an incident
