Reporting Abuse and Serious Incidents in Aged Care is OHS’s elder abuse and neglect training course. This online course has been developed to provide caregivers with the tools to identify the signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect, and how to take action when abuse or neglect is identified. The course looks at the risk factors for older people, including those living independently whether in home care or in an assisted living facility.

The Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association (APNA) has endorsed this course and successful completion earns 65 CPD Points from APNA.

Residential aged care providers are required to identify, record, manage, resolve and report incidents - including serious reportable incidents.

From 1 April 2021, residential aged care providers must report all ‘Priority 1’ incidents within 24 hours. ‘Priority 1’ incidents include those that cause or could reasonably have caused physical or psychological injury or illness requiring some form of medical or psychological treatment. Instances of unexplained absence from care and any unexpected death of a consumer are always to be regarded as ‘Priority 1’ reportable incidents. From 1 October 2021, all ‘Priority 2’ incidents – reportable incidents that do not meet the criteria for ‘Priority 1’ – must also be reported within 30 days. (ref: What is the SIRS? Serious Incident Response Scheme A fact sheet for aged care consumers, 19 March 2021)

The Serious Incident Reporting Scheme (SIRS) strengthens the reporting requirements for providers of residential aged care services, as well as flexible care delivered in residential aged care. It supports the Charter of Aged Care Rights and Aged Care Quality Standards.

This course is suitable for caregivers and other healthcare professionals who provide care to older people in Australia. This course functions as a part of a healthcare organisation’s duty of care and elder abuse training.

This online course provides caregivers and other healthcare professionals with the following training.

This course provides an understanding of:

  1. background to and the definitions and prevalence of the abuse of older people in Australia
  2. types of abuse most commonly experienced by older people
  3. requirements for the reporting of abuse of an older person in your care
  4. roles and responsibilities of staff around the abuse of a person in their care
  5. barriers to staff reporting suspected and actual abuse, and
  6. actions to take if there is imminent threat to an older person.

    Dog loves it.

I use this tugger for training only. I use it to ween off treats as a reward as a playful tool. He associates it with this and this way it retains high value.

Nice appearance, lacks sturdiness in the long run
    Color: Raven
Decent quality on the surface, but likely to eventually break down with aggressive tuggers or strong jawed dogs. Best for medium drive pups at best.

does not last for a chew toy
    Color: Raven
did not take very long for the dog to chew this up. Even wrote to Olly Dog about the toy and never heard back from them.

Excellent quality, larger than expected, machine washable
    Color: Magnolia, Color: Magnolia
It's my fault for not realizing this toy is almost as long as my 7lbs papillon lol. He is not sure what to do with it right now but having a good time trying to figure it out. I thought he and his sister would love to play with it together, but it's much firmer than I expected. This is great news for larger dogs! It is a great quality toy. It's ethically made with recycled materials by a company in Colorado and manufactured in Vietnam. It's machine washable. It's a good value and should last for a long time (even with larger dogs). It's not too heavy, but due to its size, it may not be the greatest choice for toy dogs or small puppies. Oh, and it's bright colors and pattern look awesome. My little guy is an aggressive chewer for his size and is quite toy protective, so he has already claimed this as HIS as I'm writing this. He is having fun scratching the material it's made of, chewing it, rolling around with it, carrying it around, and keeping it away from his sister (also a papillon). So, we're happy over here.
