The Cisco Nexus 3548-X Layer 3 Switch is a cornerstone of modern data centers, engineered to deliver exceptional performance, scalability, and reliability for demanding workloads. As part of Cisco’s Nexus 3000 Series, this switch is built from a switch-on-a-chip (SoC) architecture that accelerates packet processing, minimizes latency, and enables dense, flexible deployments across 1G, 10G, and 40G Ethernet interfaces. Introduced to address the needs of high-frequency trading, big data analytics, and high-performance computing, the Nexus 3548-X blends industry-leading latency characteristics with robust Layer 3 routing capabilities, ensuring predictable behavior even under intense traffic. It is designed to interoperate with Cisco’s broader data-center fabrics, virtualization strategies, and automation ecosystems, giving IT teams a powerful platform for both traditional enterprise networking and next-generation cloud-scale architectures. With its emphasis on efficiency and resilient operation, this switch helps data centers achieve superior application performance, reduced operational complexity, and a scalable path to future growth.

  • The Nexus 3548-X delivers exceptional versatility through dense port options and flexible uplink configurations, enabling seamless integration into existing data-center footprints. Built on an advanced SoC architecture, it provides rapid packet processing, low latency, and deterministic performance for latency-sensitive workloads such as financial trading, real-time analytics, and HPC interconnects. Its design supports scalable VLANs, multi-tenant isolation, and streamlined traffic segmentation, ensuring workloads can co-exist securely without compromising speed or reliability. Administrators appreciate the ease of provisioning and ongoing operational simplicity provided by Cisco’s NX-OS, which includes automation-friendly interfaces and consistent CLI workflows.
  • Performance and latency are at the core of the Nexus 3548-X’s capabilities. By leveraging optimized data-path logic and high-speed fabric interconnects, the switch minimizes jitter and delivers stable, predictable throughput even during microbursts. This makes it an ideal choice for environments where every microsecond matters—such as algorithmic trading rooms, real-time data feeds, and inter-server communication in a large-scale compute cluster. In addition to raw speed, the platform supports quality of service (QoS) controls that let operators prioritize critical traffic, ensuring latency-sensitive flows consistently meet service-level objectives while bulk workloads gracefully utilize spare capacity.
  • Layer 3 routing and sophisticated network services are a hallmark of the Nexus 3548-X. It offers robust routing capabilities, including dynamic routing protocols, route containment through VRFs, and scalable multicast support. The switch supports classic and modern routing topologies, enabling efficient inter-VRF routing, policy-based routing, and precise traffic steering. This empowers data centers to segment workloads for security and compliance while maintaining straightforward interconnectivity where required. Network administrators can implement granular ACLs, route maps, and advanced filtering to enforce security and traffic policies without sacrificing performance.
  • Data center virtualization and automation elevate operational agility. The Nexus 3548-X is designed to work with VXLAN EVPN overlays, enabling scalable, multi-tenant Layer 2 over Layer 3 networks and seamless extension of virtual machines and containers across the fabric. Its NX-OS platform supports programmatic access via APIs, CLI automation, and integration with automation frameworks, enabling rapid provisioning, consistent configuration drift prevention, and easier life-cycle management for large-scale deployments. By unifying physical and virtual networks under a common policy and automation layer, the switch helps IT teams accelerate service delivery while reducing complexity and human error.
  • Reliability, energy efficiency, and manageability define the practical deployment of the Nexus 3548-X in production. The hardware is designed for continuous operation, with options for redundant, hot-swappable power supplies, robust cooling, and fault-tolerant components to minimize downtime. In addition, the switch’s management and monitoring capabilities provide deep visibility into performance, health, and security posture. Centralized management, telemetry, and dashboards enable operators to forecast capacity, preempt failures, and orchestrate firmware updates with minimal disruption to services, making the Nexus 3548-X a dependable backbone for mission-critical networks.

How to Install Cisco Nexus 3548-X Layer 3 Switch

  • Prepare the installation space: verify rack suitability, ensure proper clearance for airflow, and confirm available power provisioning and network cabling paths. Check that you have the correct rack-mount hardware, cables, and labeling to facilitate a clean, organized deployment.
  • Physically install the switch: mount the Nexus 3548-X into the rack using the supplied ears and screws, secure the chassis, and connect the power supplies. If you are using redundant PSUs, install both and connect to separate power feeds to maximize availability.
  • Establish management access: connect a console cable from the switch to a management workstation, or configure out-of-band management through a dedicated management network. Boot the device and verify POST success, then access the NX-OS CLI for initial configuration.
  • Connect network physics and uplinks: attach your 1G/10G/40G network interfaces to server racks, storage, and upstream data-center fabrics. Verify physical link status, correct fiber types, and SFP+/QSFP+ transceivers as required by your topology, ensuring fiber polarity and cable routing minimize path length and interference.
  • Configure Layer 3 services and validation: set up basic IP routing, then implement VXLAN EVPN overlays if you are deploying a modern multi-tenant fabric. Apply QoS policies to reserve bandwidth for latency-sensitive traffic, configure VRFs for workload isolation, and enable security features such as ACLs and control-plane protection. Validate connectivity with end-to-end pings, traceroutes, and traffic-generation tests to confirm stable performance under expected load conditions.

bought twice to make custom UPS setup battery leads, not disappointed
Color: Black, Size: 25-Feet
bought this item(25ft 2awg) twice, the first time I did was to create some quick connect cables between my batteries and my distribution block to my 4kw invertor(24v 165a peak calculated load) I may have oversized due to knowing that the bigger you go the less you stress components and loose power to voltage drop these cables are a nice high-grade rubber jacket and the 30awg strands are ideal for maximum flexibility while remaining fairly easy to terminate this cable also includes a backer paper wrap that allows for easy stripping(of the rubber) without too much strand loss damage(from cutting too close to the core) overall, would buy again, like I did, if I need larger runs(say for feeding an RV solar AC distribution panel) I would buy this brand again, in the 100ft range or so THHN is not ideal for flex connections(strands are way too stiff) but a couple runs of welding cable like this inside something like "smurf tube" would be a perfect high-power temporary connection system, or just a way to isolate a large battery stack used for a solar setup in fact I may do that someday, set up a pallet of LiFePO4 batteries with a large quick connect, and just recharge the massive array(s) at a secondary location where solar is more ideal(or other renewables)

Custom wires for winch solenoid pack relocation.
Color: Black, Size: 25-Feet
Wire is nice. Flexible. Seems good. However the inner liner is not moisture blocking as I assumed from the pictures, it's paper.. still seems like a good price per foot.

Good, flexible (considering it's 2 GA) wire
Color: Black, Size: 20-Feet
Good, flexible (considering it's 2 GA) wire. Lugs soldered on well (using solder pot + flux). The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is because it's expensive. Made in USA was a +
