We were first introduced to Marumo's 'Modish' album via DJ Okapi's amazing resource the 'Afrosynth' blog, which archives South African bubblegum/disco from the 80s & early 90s. Aside from this blog, this music would otherwise remained unknown outside of South Africa, apart from the most hardcore of digger and record collector. 'Modish' was originally released on Spades Record in 1982 and was recorded by producer West Nkosi, who was a member of supergroup 'Mahlathini & The Mahotella Queens'. He worked with the big hitters in South African music such as Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Teaspoon & The Waves, Patience Africa and many more. Marumo were made up of a group of musicians from the Athlone School for the blind in Bellville, close to Cape Town. The band members, John Mothopeng, Munich Sibiya, Simon Falatsi and Marks Mbuthuma, had previously played in the groups Batsumi, All Rounders and The Orations and came together to record this versatile album. It covers a wide number of genres from Sotho soul, Mbaqanga, disco-funk, gospel & spacey-synth slow jams. Flash forward 30 or so years later and lost dead-stock copies of the album start to appear and Marumo's music begins to be heard across the world in the DJ sets of Motor City Drum Ensemble, Invisible City Editions, Floating Points, DJ Okapi and others. We included the afro-disco-funk beauty of 'Khomo Tsaka Deile Kae?' on our Mr Bongo Record Club Volume Three compilation, but felt 'Modish' needed to be available and heard in it's entirety. Love this bag!

I love this backpack! I had a messenger style bag before this one and when I would look for things, other things would fall out because it was one big pouch. This is so much better. I can fit everything I need in it and everything has a place. The zippers are not cheap flimsy ones. They will definitely stand the test of time. The material is awesome and is definitely water resistant. I got caught in the rain and my things were kept nice and dry. The style is so cute too! It’s my favorite color.

It is so roomy, a couple of the compartments are empty!
It’s great if you have any kind of back pain! I did buy a crossbody strap to use as an alternative.

Easy to use, multi strap, everyday bag
This bag is super handy and feels very durable. I at first didn’t like the 3 types of straps included on it because it felt like over kill but I don’t mind it after using it regularly. I wish the long strap was thicker, more durable material but it does match the sewn on straps on the bag. The design is a bit bold for my taste but it is different, fun and unique. The canvas texture of the bag makes it easy to use everyday without concerns of excessive wear. It also has a large carrying capacity. I can fit tablet, phone, makeup, snack, large water bottle, wallet and more while still zipping at the top. I would have given 5 ⭐️ if not for the long strap which I don’t feel will last with heavy loading and daily use. And if you switch the strap out it won’t match the sewn on ones so that’s a bummer.

3.5 stars, really - not a bad bag
Okay, I like this bag. I will use it and I'm glad I got it. However...
First of all, it smelled terrible out of the package. It's like a chemical smell and a rotten smell. That may just be the one I got. I let it air out by hanging it on our hall tree, and it has gotten better.
The material is like a thin corduroy almost, which I like better than canvas. I also like how the decorative strap on the bag matches the handle straps. There is plenty of room in this bag, but it's not a bottomless cavern. So you can still find what you are looking for in it.
You could use this for a laptop bag or professional bag. I will probably just carry it as a purse with certain outfits. I think the brown color goes with a lot, and the designs all work for fall.

Simple and useful large tote
Nice large tote that comes with three different length of handles and strap for various look and purpose. The design is simple with artful trims. Ample space to carry tons of stuff plus three small compartment for organization.
The biggest complain of the bag is it has a strong foul smell when take out of the packaging. Had to hang outdoor and and let the odor dissipate for a week.
