3CD - UK Import

• A 3CD anthology of Free / Avant-Garde jazz.

The landmark albums included here in their entirety are Ornette Coleman's 'The Shape of Jazz to Come', 'Thesis' by The Jimmy Giuffre 3, John Coltrane's '"Live" at the Village Vanguard’ (including the controversial 'Chasin' the Trane'), 'Warm Canto' by Eric Dolphy (his work on flute bass clarinet) and from the astonishing date of 1956, Cecil Taylor's 'Jazz Advance', the earliest recording of the new music.

Featuring key works by the pioneers of the new music; the saxophonists Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, Albert Ayler and Joe Harriott; the pianists Cecil Taylor and Sun Ra; and the multi-reed men Eric Dolphy and Jimmy Giuffre, whose minimalist abstractions for clarinet are in fascinating contrast to the labyrinthine, raga like lines of Coleman or Coltrane, Ayler's cries from the ghetto, or the Impressionist dissonances of Taylor. If, in the work of Joe Harriott, the flavour of calypso is implicit then similarly that alluring juxtaposition of antique Africa and the cosmos in the music of Sun Ra.

If each of these protagonists sought their own way to challenge the rules of melody, harmony and rhythm, they shared the goal of complete freedom of expression. They antagonised the panjandrums of the establishment, and encountered a hostile press, but continued fearlessly on, sparking a revolution that changed perceptions of where the outer limits of jazz might be, while significantly broadening the landscape (and language) of contemporary music in general.

Well made but on the small side. I recommend ordering one size bigger than your usual size
Size: Large, Color: Pure Black (Retro Rose)
The fit on this shirt ran slightly smaller for me being a slim fit, so I order the next size up. Getting the next size up gave me a perfect fit. The material is soft and comfortable. I will likely consider similar shirts in the future. I recommend the product.

Good quality. Fit and finish seem nice for the price. Look like a cowboy! Yeee haaaaaw. Wrinkles easy in dryer, don’t let it sit for long.

Very nice shirt -Good Quality
Size: XX-Large, Color: Red (Retro Rose)
My husband is 6'1, weighs 178 pounds and normally wears a medium or large. Just for reference his pant size is a 32-34 depending on the brand. We ordered a large due to the fact the shirt appeared to be fitted more at the waist and from looking at the description I knew it would not have much stretch due to the satin type material. I was right. The large fit perfect and hung well. My husband use to be very large in shoulders and arms, but with age he has lost muscle mass, and recently lost a lot in his belly, so usually mediums fit perfect now. But when he put his large on, a medium would not have fit good to be comfortable & give proper fit in stomach area, so glad we went with the large. The shirt was purchased to go on a Virgin Cruise for Scarlett night, and he plans to wear black pants with it as in the picture the company posted, and this shirt will be perfect for that. It is a nice shirt, good quality, and if someone wanted it for an event/cruise or just for a night to dress up, especially for a Caribbean/Spanish or Latin dance theme, this shirt is a perfect look to me. Buy it, you will not be disappointed. He has not worn it yet, not washed it, but I would not put in it with other colors, may fade a little like reds do, and definitely, only dry on low/delicate. May need a pressing/steaming, but overall, it was not horribly wrinkled when we received it. A toss in the dryer may just do the trick. Was delivered on time as it said it would. Hope this info helps you.
