You are taking a serious risk if you stand, climb, or walk on any structure that is too high to cause injury in the event of a fall. Working at heights is one of the leading causes of workplace deaths.

The government requires that all workers and employers complete safety training in accordance with WHS standards to help reduce risks and improve height safety.

This course is the nationally recognised course for RIIWHS204E Work safely at heights delivered by RTO AlertForce.

What is the Work at Heights Sydney Course?

This course teaches workers how to assess risk and work at heights. Students learn how to select the best fall protection equipment and minimise risks through proper training. Safety at heights training Sydney also covers:

• Assessment of the hazards associated with working at heights
• Proper clothing, equipment and footwear
• Understanding the different types of fall protection
• Learn how to handle workplace accidents
• Use the hierarchy of control steps

This hierarchy of control measures gives guidelines for assessing risks and minimising them. There are eight levels of control measures. The workers begin at the lowest level to analyse the conditions.

Next, you need to find safer ways to do your tasks. Workers may choose to work from a lower spot rather than from a higher location. This reduces the need for personal protective equipment (PPE).

Workers should use collective protection equipment if the area is not safe. This could include guardrails and other external devices.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) is the last step to prevent workers from being injured while working at heights. Personal protective equipment (PPE) may include straps, harnesses, and lanyards.

Workers then focus on mitigating falls after implementing measures to prevent falls. Airbags and nettings are common ways to reduce the risk of falling.

The RIIWHS204E Work Safely at Heights Training Course is a full-day course. It usually lasts approximately six hours depending on how many people are involved. Students have plenty of time to take breaks and eat during the course.

While the Statement of Attainment does not expire, students should refresh their knowledge by attending a working at heights course in Sydney. This is usually every 2 years. Workers may choose to do this online, rather than attending a full-day class. The online course usually takes between two and four hours. Although there is no requirement to take Nationally Recognised Refreshers, it is a good idea to check with your employer to confirm what is allowed.
