When Canadian chanteuse Alannah Myles issued her debut album few expected it to attain a level of success that would elevate her to international acclaim and see her become one of the biggest selling female artists of the era. Alannah continues to exude an undeniable air of confidence, but the sheer scale of her accomplishment and the ramifications of the exposure are, in many respects, still being felt by her to this very day. Born and raised in Toronto, Alannah's rise to fame was initially littered with frustration and slow progress but bolstered by an unshakeable belief in her abilities. It was this faith in her own talent that fueled her determination to succeed at all costs, eventually winning an impressive deal with Atlantic Records in the US. Her debut album issued in 1989, and produced by fellow Canadian David Tyson, is a record that mined the lucrative space between all out hard rock and considered pop. But of course it's the huge international hit single 'Black Velvet' that created her position in the marketplace, helping to propel the album to sales in excess of 6 million units worldwide.

Cute for warm weather, but consider sizing down!

I liked this dress and probably would have kept it if it fit me. The material is not very thick, but I think thin cotton is ideal for a summer dress anyway. The slightly glossy/shiny feel of the sateen is a bit unusual, but didn't bother me. I LOVE that it has pockets. Just keep in mind that something heavy like a phone will weigh the skirt down and make it sit slightly differently. Can't speak to the long-term durability or how it washes, but the overall construction looked decent - no unraveling seams or glaring quality control issues.
Sadly, it does not seem TTS to me. I am 5'2", 115lb. Bought my usual XS. It hit about mid-shin, so not too long, but it was quite large, especially in the chest and waist. It was less noticeable with the skirt since it is loose and pretty forgiving - if you are bottom-heavy and nervous about sizing down to fit your upper body, I wouldn't worry too much.

Great for the price. And POCKETS!

I don’t have a full body shot but the dress is lovely. I bought it for a party and it was comfortable the entire evening. Very light and not sheer. It fit very well and of course POCKETS! I will wear it again I’m sure. I don’t know if it will last for very long in the future, but for the price it is simply worth it to have a nice light dress for the summer.

Great Summer Dress

This is such a pretty dress. I'm pretty small--a size 0 J Crew or 00 Loft--and the XS fit me with some room to flex. It's very pretty on, not see-through, and it holds its shape nicely over the course of a day. A perfect summer dress!
