An Eraser and a Maze is the eighth studio album by Modest Mouse, released in 2026 through Glacial Pace Recordings and Virgin Music Group. Produced by Jacknife Lee, Suzy Shinn, Isaac Brock, and others, it is the band's first independent release in more than two decades and their first album following the death of founding drummer Jeremiah Green in 2022.
Originally conceived as material for Isaac Brock's side project Ugly Casanova, the songs evolved into a Modest Mouse album through a collaborative recording process that featured contributions from several musicians, including multiple drummers rather than a single successor to Green. The album includes the singles “Look How Far...” and “Picking Dragons' Pockets”, while continuing the band's mix of angular indie rock, offbeat melodies, and introspective songwriting.
An Eraser and a Maze also introduces several new members to the band's recorded lineup, reflecting a new chapter for Modest Mouse while maintaining the eclectic songwriting and adventurous arrangements that have characterized the group's music throughout its career.
