Lord Huron’s latest album, The Cosmic Selector, continues their genre-blurring blend of dreamlike Americana and cinematic storytelling. Where past records cast the band as dusty wanderers, lost lovers, or ghostly crooners, this one looks skyward. Moody and otherworldly, it draws on '50s ballads, front-porch folk, and gauzy psych-pop in the spirit of Mercury Rev and Sparklehorse.

From the noir-tinted haze of “Looking Back” to the surreal, spoken-word drift of “Who Laughs Last” (narrated by Kristen Stewart), The Cosmic Selector plays like a cosmic radio transmission. Songs like “The Comedian” channel washed-out stardom with vintage flair, while “It All Comes Back” aches with echo-laden romance. The band never tries to pass these characters off as real—they lean into the archetypes, fully aware of the flickering projections they are. And that’s what makes it work.
