How to install Fortinet FortiWifi FWF-80F-2R-3G4G-DSL Network Security/Firewall Appliance

  • Prepare and unbox — Verify the model is Fortinet FortiWifi FWF-80F-2R-3G4G-DSL and confirm you have the necessary licenses for FortiGuard security services and any cloud-management features you plan to use. Keep a copy of the purchase documentation for reference during activation.
  • Plan network topology — Determine your deployment model: standard firewall with SD-WAN failover, or a multi-site fabric with centralized management. Identify primary and secondary WAN connections, the DSL line if available, and the preferred Wi‑Fi settings for guest and corporate networks. Map out IP addressing for the LAN, management IP, and any VLANs you intend to use.
  • Connect hardware — Power the unit and connect WAN interfaces to the Internet, DSL, or cellular modems as configured. Attach the LAN port(s) to your internal network switch or router, and if you plan to use the built‑in Wi‑Fi, configure the wireless radios accordingly. If you’re using a 3G/4G modem, attach the modem to the designated USB or modem slot per the product’s hardware guide.
  • Access the FortiGate management interface — Access the device through the default management IP (commonly 192.168.1.99) from a computer on the same network, and login with the default administrator credentials. Change the administrator password immediately to secure the device.
  • Run initial setup and licensing — Use the setup wizard to configure network basics, including WAN IP addressing (DHCP, static, or PPPoE as required), and enable essential security features. Apply FortiGuard subscriptions and FortiCloud/ FortiManager licenses if you plan to use centralized management and threat intelligence across your deployment.
  • Configure SD-WAN and security policies — Define SD-WAN rules for path selection and failover, set up firewall policies, IPS and security profiles, VPNs (IPsec or SSL), and application control rules. Enable SSL inspection and Bot Protection as appropriate for your environment, and configure logging/alerting to monitor events in real time.
  • Update firmware and test connectivity — Check for the latest FortiOS firmware and apply updates. Validate Internet connectivity from both WAN paths, test VPN connectivity to remote sites, verify wireless coverage if enabled, and run baseline security scans to confirm the protective policies are functioning as intended.
  • Document and monitor — Save a configuration backup, document the network design, and set up ongoing monitoring through FortiAnalyzer or FortiCloud if you’re using centralized management. Establish routine checks for threat signatures, firmware updates, and policy reviews to maintain a secure edge across all sites.

A mom's review: They read my mind
Format: Hardcover
I was putting together broad categories for how to instruct my family of boys on aspects of the civil war. Jonathan Fetter-Vorm and Ari Kelman read my mind. From captive blacks to reconstruction and the rise of the Klan terrorists, this book does it all. I don't need to instruct - this book paints vivid pictures for my kids to absorb, relate to, and build on according to their areas of interest. My other resources come into play, but this book is the Civil War overview I had been trying to create myself. Includes disease (malaria, gangrene) and Andersonville prison, suspension of habeus corpus and desertions, Mathew Brady's photographs, hunger on the homefront, desertions, the assassination of Lincoln, more. Marvellous. I can't say enough about the quality of the graphics and narration in the book. This is graphic history as it should be done. Bravo to the authors and publishers from not shying away from the cold truths. Lincoln's presidency was ambiguous on Constitutional questions. James K. Polk was a racist SOB, like most democrats. The KKK was/is the terror arm of the democrats. Great book for Junior High and up. I can't recommend it strongly enough. You probably need one for every child in your family, because they will not want to share. More books like this, please.

Historical Storytelling at its Finest
Format: Hardcover
This book is simply superb! This is storytelling at its finest. The illustrations pull you deeper into the personal history of historic events, and they manage to fool your senses into believing you might actually be there. My eyes lingered on them, and I found myself flipping back to previous panels to review them for subtleties I missed the first time. I teach middle school history, and I've been yearning for a book that would dare to cover the scope and breadth of the American Civil War. The authors have written a page turning graphic novel that will appeal to all ages, and will grip even those with a brief knowledge of U.S. history. This should be on the reading list of every American history class, and in the library of every school in the country. The history is first rate.

Beautiful, Evocative, and Sharply Written
Format: Hardcover
Battle Lines is one of the best books I've read, in any genre, in a long time. It's beautiful, evocative, and sharply written. The stories it tells are layered and complex, but presented in an engaging way. You can read it in one sitting or enjoy the nuances and details of the images and words more slowly. Either way, it's well worth it.
