The Allied Telesis AT-2712FX is a purpose-built fiber-optic Network Interface Card (NIC) designed for fiber-to-the-desktop networks that demand uncompromising security, reliability, and performance. Built on a compact PCIe x1 form factor, this NIC fits neatly into widely deployed workstations and compact servers, making it an ideal choice for government, education, and other security-conscious environments. The AT-2712FX is offered with an SC fiber connector, enabling secure, high-speed connections over fiber optic cables while maintaining compatibility with existing Ethernet infrastructure. With Trade Agreements Act (TAA) compliance, this NIC is tailored for procurement in sensitive and regulated environments, ensuring you meet governmental and institutional procurement requirements without sacrificing performance or manageability. In short, the AT-2712FX delivers robust, fiber-based networking for secure, mission-critical networks where reliability and security are non-negotiable.

  • Secure fiber connectivity for desktop networks: The AT-2712FX brings fiber-based Ethernet directly to the endpoint, reducing susceptibility to electromagnetic interference and enhancing data integrity for security-sensitive applications. Its design emphasizes trusted performance for secure environments such as classrooms, labs, government facilities, and enterprise data centers that require hardened network access at the edge.
  • PCIe x1 form factor with broad compatibility: This NIC uses a low-profile PCIe x1 bus, enabling seamless integration into a wide range of desktops, workstations, and compact servers. Its compact footprint makes it ideal for thin client deployments and space-constrained racks where secure connectivity matters most.
  • SC connector with flexible fiber options: Available with an SC fiber optic connector, the AT-2712FX supports standard fiber installations, including multi-mode and single-mode fiber paths. This flexibility helps align the card with existing fiber infrastructure and future-proof networks as fiber standards evolve.
  • Designed for secure, reliable operation in demanding networks: Built to meet the demands of education and government networks, the AT-2712FX emphasizes reliability, long lifecycle support, and compatibility with security-focused network designs. It integrates smoothly with managed switches, routers, and security appliances to deliver consistent performance under load.

how to install Allied Telesis AT-2712FX

Installing the Allied Telesis AT-2712FX is a straightforward process designed to minimize downtime and simplify integration into existing secure networks. Before you begin, ensure you have the proper fiber optic cable with an SC connector that matches your network’s fiber type (multi-mode or single-mode) and confirm that your workstation or server has an available PCIe x1 slot. Follow these steps to complete a clean installation and ensure optimal performance:

Step 1: Prepare the workstation or server

Power down the computer and disconnect power cables. If you’re updating a system that is running critical services, schedule a maintenance window to minimize disruption. Ground yourself to avoid static discharge that could damage the NIC or other components. Remove the side panel to access the PCIe slots if you’ll be doing a physical upgrade in a standard tower or rack-mount chassis.

Step 2: Insert the AT-2712FX into a PCIe x1 slot

Locate an available PCIe x1 slot, ensuring that there is adequate clearance for the NIC’s bracket. Gently insert the card into the slot until it’s firmly seated. If you’re installing in a rack-mount or slim chassis, use the hardware provided to secure the card with a mounting screw. Reassemble the chassis, reconnect power, and boot the system. The PCIe interface should be detected by the motherboard firmware, and the operating system will begin the driver discovery process.

Step 3: Install the driver and software

Visit Allied Telesis’s official support site or use the installation media that accompanies the NIC to install the appropriate driver package for your operating system. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the driver installation. In enterprise environments, you may deploy drivers through centralized management systems to ensure consistency across all endpoints. After installation, restart the computer to finalize the driver setup and to allow the new NIC to initialize properly.

Step 4: Connect the fiber cable

Attach the SC fiber optic cable to the AT-2712FX’s connector. Ensure the connection is secure and that the fiber is the correct type for your network (multi-mode or single-mode). Carefully route the fiber to minimize stress and bending; fiber runs should avoid tight bends and kinks to prevent signal loss. If you’re integrating into a secured lab, classroom, or data center environment, follow your facility’s cable management standards to preserve both performance and safety.

Step 5: Configure network settings and verify connectivity

Once the driver is installed and the cable is connected, configure the NIC’s network settings in the operating system. In many cases, the card will be detected as a standard Ethernet interface. Assign appropriate IP addressing, subnet, and gateway settings in alignment with your network plan. Run a basic connectivity test, such as pinging a known, reachable host or performing a traceroute to confirm that traffic routes through the new NIC as intended. For security-focused environments, you may also apply firewall rules, VLAN tagging, or network access control policies to bound traffic strictly to your intended endpoints.

Step 6: validate performance and security posture

Perform a quick throughput test to confirm the expected data rates over the fiber link. Monitor link integrity indicators, error counters, and duplex settings to ensure stable operation. In regulated environments, validate compliance with internal security baselines and procurement requirements. Regularly check for firmware and driver updates from Allied Telesis to maintain optimal performance and security posture over the card’s lifecycle.

Note: If you encounter driver compatibility issues or device recognition problems, consult Allied Telesis’ support resources or your organization’s IT team. The AT-2712FX is designed to integrate with security-conscious networks, so you’ll typically see straightforward deployment in well-managed environments that rely on fiber-based edge connectivity.

The best chew, play and teeth cleaning toy
Size: Blue
I have a 24 lb medium australian labradoodle multigen. She loves to chew and nothing soothed her teething like this toy. It also cleans the adult teeth that came in. So win win. The squeakers didn't last but that was my fault for squeaking it to tire her out in play. We personally love this toy and will purchase it again when it wears out. So thanks for a great product. 😉

Not indestructible, but pretty close!
Size: Yellow, Size: Yellow
I adopted a pit mix a little over a month ago, and so far he's managed to destroy every single toy he's had, including ones meant for aggressive chewers. He's a sucker for a good squeaky toy, and this had good reviews (and was affordable) so I decided to check it out. He's had his corn for a week now, and surprisingly, it's still holding up pretty well - though there are some caveats to that. My boy didn't even want to wait for me to take his corn out of the plastic bag, he too excited to get it. He went to town immediately, to the point where he was sitting in a puddle of his own drool after about an hour. He managed to squeak it (which I couldn't do myself), but still hasn't really gotten the hang of doing so - and the squeaker, when wet, does sound a little... Well, wet. He managed to have bite marks in it within the first six hours. Within a day, there were tiny bits of yellow rubber starting to appear anywhere that he played with this toy. A week later and there are some decent sized chunks missing from the corn - some of which I've had to cut off when they got loose and I worried about him choking on them. He loves his corn cob, and will likely get at least a few more weeks of play out of it before I have to toss it for his safety. I'm unsure of whether the squeaker is still functional, but he seems to love it whether or not it squeaks. Overall, it's not a bad toy for most aggressive chewers, but it will not last forever. The rubber is as heavy as the regular red Kong toys, but it feels slightly softer, which might contribute to his ability to break off little pieces. Make sure you keep an eye on your dog with this toy, or with any other, especially if they are chew goblins. But I'd definitely buy this toy again.

Solid piece

Border Collie loves it. Great for aggressive chewers. Prefers this to the carrot or the pineapple one. Probably better for large dogs than my medium size dog as there is some heft to it.
