गुरु पूर्णिमा व्रत आषाढ़ मास की पूर्णिमा तिथि को मनाया जाता है, जिसका उद्देश्य अपने गुरु (आध्यात्मिक शिक्षक) के प्रति श्रद्धा और कृतज्ञता प्रकट करना होता है। गुरु वह होते हैं जो अज्ञान के अंधकार को दूर कर ज्ञान का प्रकाश प्रदान करते हैं। यह व्रत विशेष रूप से विद्यार्थी, साधक और गुरु-शिष्य परंपरा का पालन करने वाले भक्तों द्वारा रखा जाता है, चाहे वे हिंदू, बौद्ध या जैन परंपरा से हों। इस दिन को महर्षि वेदव्यास की जयंती के रूप में भी मनाया जाता है, जिन्होंने वेदों का संकलन किया और महाभारत की रचना की थी; इसलिए इसे व्यास पूर्णिमा भी कहा जाता है।
