Podkin One-Ear

Podkin is the son of a warrior chieftain. He knows that one day it will be up to him to lead his warren and guard it in times of danger. But for now, he's quite happy to laze around annoying his older sister Paz, and playing with his baby brother Pook. Then Podkin's home is brutally attacked, and the young rabbits are forced to flee. The terrifying Gorm are on the rampage, and no one and nowhere is safe. With danger all around them, Podkin must protect his family, uncover his destiny, and attempt to defeat the most horrifying enemy rabbitkind has ever known.

The Gift of Dark Hollow

Podkin and his fellow rabbits have been sheltering in Dark Hollow after their battle with Scramashank. Paz tends to the rabbits with sleeping sickness; Crom meets with the war council . . . Podkin has nothing to do! Frustrated, Podkin goes exploring and discovers an abandoned underground chamber. Armed with the Gift of Dark Hollow, Podkin learns to moonstride, and Paz is rewarded with a magical gift of her own . . .

The Beasts of Grimheart

Podkin, Paz and Pook once again find their home under threat, but this time they are ready to fight! Podkin and the others leave for Sparrowfast to ask their uncle for the use of his magic bow. It's the one weapon that could save them all. But as they flee into the forest depths, it seems they have been betrayed . . .

Uki and the Outcasts

From the Ice Wastes beyond the Cinder Wall emerges an unlikely hero. Rejected by his village and left to die, young Uki is given life and unique powers by a long-buried spirit from the time of the Ancients . . . and a life or death mission.

Joined by two other outcasts - a trained assassin who refuses to kill people and a very short rabbit who rides the fastest jerboa on the plains - Uki must capture Valkus, the Spirit of War, before rabbitkind destroys itself in conflict.

Uki and the Swamp Spirit

Uki and his friends have two more spirits to find and capture. After defeating Valkus, they make for Clarice, who is spreading disease through the swamps. Can Uki and his friends outwit him - all whilst they themselves are being chased by the Endwatch and Jori's clan of assassins?

Uki and the Ghostburrow

After capturing Charice, there is only one spirit left for Uki to find: Mortix, the most dangerous of all. With his friends Jori, Cole and Kree, Uki heads to Eisenfell - the greatest city in Hulstland - only to find that Mortix has taken control of Emperor Ash and is plotting to conquer the whole Five Realms with her terrifying army.

Uki must dodge the Endwatch, the Shrikes, Clan Septys and the guards and find a way to complete his quest before all is lost.

Podkin and the Singing Spear

Podkin is now Keeper of the Gifts - which is a tremendously important job and just a tiny bit boring. It doesn't help that there are still three gifts missing - Podkin can't stop himself from thinking about that. So when the Godseye Mirror begins to shimmer and shift revealing a motley crew of travellers is approaching, Podkin sees it as a sign that his world is about to be upended all over again . . .

Podkin and the Tentacled Terror

After claiming the Singing Spear, Podkin heads to the sea to search out the last gift of all - the anvil of Magmarok - which is hidden inside a mysterious labyrinth. He must brave Ancient sea monsters and pirates to arrive at the city that houses the anvil before Scramashank and his Gorm. But what will it take to defeat the labyrinth and win the anvil? And what will happen when the Gifts finally gather in one place?

The Fate of Podkin One-Ear

Podkin and his friends have managed to find every gift from the Goddess . . . Bringing them together, the gifts melt and morph before their eyes, transforming into a suit of armour - that will only fit a rabbit with one ear! Podkin and Uki have proven more than once that little rabbits can do great things. They must call together all the armies of the Five Realms - across every tribe and species, the forest wardens, packs of wolves, the warring rabbit tribes, the bone dancers. With the fate of all of rabbitkind hanging in the balance, can they vanquish the Gorm once and for all?

Naturally, it was in his nature!
Format: Kindle
Naturally, it was in Robert Greene’s nature to write this book. Accustomed as he has been to writing about human activity involving power relationships, Greene has produced yet another extraordinary book jam-packed with fascinating insights about how the mind of homo sapiens often works in dealing with other members of the species. As Greene describes in the introduction, this book is a codebook for deciphering people’s behavior, with each chapter telling the story of some iconic individual(s) who illustrates the law being covered, along with advice on how to operate successfully (if that’s possible) under this law. So what laws (all negative aspects or shortcomings, 18 to be exact, of human behavior) does Green focus on in this book? Irrationality, narcissism, role-playing, compulsive behavior, covetousness, shortsightedness, defensiveness, self-sabotage, repression, envy, grandiosity, gender rigidity, aimlessness, conformity, fickleness, aggression, generational myopia, and death denial. As usual with Greene’s not-inexpensive books, he gives one a lot of ideas and pages to chew on for the money, leaving one well satisfied with the investment. If I do have any criticisms, the main one relates to the stories he uses to highlight the laws. Quite often the characterizations are so extensively detailed and intriguing that one can easily forget the law being discussed. Also, there’s his possible hairsplitting of each of his 18 laws into numerous subcategories, reminding one of the mythical Eskimo vocabulary for the word “snow,” which can get one to question how useful the subcategories are depending upon one’s situation. In addition, some chapters kept me wondering, for example, the one on gender rigidity. Do those things really happen? This brings up a related general criticism: a selected bibliography, yes, but no supporting footnotes to back up a few especially dubious, IMHO, assertions. All in all, however, I believe you’ll find the book well-written, enjoyable, and educational as regards important strategies the less-than-honorable portion of the population uses and the strategies the more honorable can use to successfully counter. Of possible consideration for those interested in a book distilling five main life strategies from 87 of history’s master strategists:

BEST book I've ever read

At the time of this review, I'm only halfway through reading this book, but I love it SO much. I am going after it hardcore with a highlighter and sticky tabs. I have read over 300 pages (this is a BIG book btw) and have not read a single page that was not worthwhile. This book is easy to comprehend and apply. I recommend taking your time in digesting it, as the lessons are quite practical in daily life. It is truly helping me understand myself and others and why we all behave the way we do. Each "Law" is a different chapter and the author explains the law, how to recognize it in yourself and others, and how to address such. He also includes a story about a real person from history and an interesting anecdote that applies to the lesson. I have never been much of a history buff but these stories are fascinating and therefore I'm learning not only about psychology but history as well. I cannot wait to keep devouring this book. I would STRONGLY encourage any human being who wants to intentionally become more self-aware and tolerant to read this book. I will definitely be checking out more books from this author.

Mastery is the goal, The Laws of Human Nature is the Truth
Format: Hardcover
Mastery is the goal. It’s us striving for our best. It’s optimistic. The Laws of Human Nature is what we actually are. I read the first chapter and put it down for a week. I knew I trusted the author and that I could gain incredible insight in finishing the book. But I had to drop my expectations and comparisons to his other work and wrap my head around the journey I was going to take. Now I am near the end of the book and feel incredibly connected to myself. Here’s why: I’ve become spoiled with the author’s other works—learning the game, how to win, manipulate, and grow. But to me, regarding his other works, it always felt like the weaknesses rested on my adversaries. I was above them. I had secret weapons. This is no longer the case. Maybe it’s also an age and perspective thing. I started his books in my early 20’s and now I’m older. I am more grounded in my ability to understand others and my arrogance has been replaced with curiosity. My existential crises come out in jokes rather than tears and I’ve accepted that absolutely everything is absurd. (I’ve also read The Denial of Death by Ernest Becker and come to terms with my impermanence which makes Laws of Human Nature less tragic to take on.) I loved the scientific and historical examples throughout. Trusting the author, I didn’t mind that the format was a bit different than his other works. Typically, they begin with an historical example and are followed by a breakdown then a law. This book is the opposite. I didn’t mind being presented information first, followed by historical or scientific examples later as it gave me room to find the examples in my own life first. I think this book isn’t meant to be skimmed and that the formatting is intentional. The reader needs to be ready to look at the uglier parts of themselves. To really delve in, I had to realize that I am not the exception to any of the rules or laws outlined in his other work. I am the rule. I almost wished I had read this one first. I’ve used his other work to build my life circumstances, but not so often reflected on my own weaknesses in such a microscopic way as required by The Laws of Human Nature. It causes one to breakdown themselves and their processes and doesn’t throw a stone on the adversary or tackle external circumstances as much in my opinion. In Laws of Human Nature, I am both the adversary and the obstacle. This book is a true exercise in humility and honest self-reflection. It’s not the game tape outlined in the author’s other works. It is the finish line. It brings us back to the beginning—our true ugly, flawed, selfish selves. Get through the grieving process to acceptance, and this is an incredible book.
