Technical Details of Aten 17 16-port Cat5 LCD KVM

How to install Aten 17 16-port Cat5 LCD KVM

  • Plan and prepare: Begin by assessing your rack layout or desk space to accommodate the 17-inch console and 16-port switching unit. Confirm that you have a standard 19-inch rack or a sturdy workstation setup, plus sufficient space for cable routing and airflow. Prepare a labeling scheme for all connected PCs to minimize cross-checking during deployment.
  • Position and mount: Place the ATEN unit in a central, accessible location within the rack to facilitate convenient cable management and quick access during maintenance. If you are mounting in a rack, use the appropriate rails and screws following your facility’s mounting guidelines to ensure secure installation and stable operation over time.
  • Connect host systems: Connect each of the 16 host computers to the corresponding KVM ports on the back of the unit using the appropriate combination of video, USB or PS/2 keyboard/mouse interfaces, depending on the host capabilities and the unit’s supported configurations. Use high-quality cables to preserve video clarity and input responsiveness, and label each port to prevent misconnection during future maintenance.
  • Establish console connections: Connect the built-in 17" LCD console to the KVM switch if not already integrated, ensuring that the keyboard, video, and mouse signals are properly routed. If your setup relies on Cat5/Cat6 extenders, install these extenders according to the manufacturer’s guidelines, verifying that each endpoint is properly powered and recognized by the KVM system.
  • Power up and configure: Apply power to the KVM unit and boot the connected hosts. Enter the OSD (On-Screen Display) or use the defined hot-key sequence to configure essential settings such as per-port access rights, password protection, video resolution preferences, and preferred hot-key mappings. Run a simple switch test to confirm that each host is reachable and that keyboard and mouse input is accurately reflected on the console.
  • Test and document: Systematically test all ports by cycling through each connected host, verifying video integrity, input latency, and any security features. Document the results and store a configuration backup if the unit provides a retainable profile option. Regularly revisit firmware updates and compatibility notes from ATEN to maintain peak performance and security.

I love it
Color: Black/Silver
I need a watch has analog display (easy for me to read) and digital function (need the alarm and the countdown) also shows the day-date (the day has to be 3 digits e.g. Sunday is "sun" instead of "su"). I know I am very demanding, but it is just me, LOL. Have bought this watch for a couple of days. Yes, it fits all my needs. Pro: 1) Light weight, fair value materials, price is low and quality is fair. The glass is just a piece of plastic which is how I felt, but I put a packing clear tape on it and cut the edge off as my home made scratch protection. 2) There are 4 push buttons, except the center one for light, the other 3 seemed like are metal with rough surface which generate enough friction to hold and push it down. 3) It has Telememo, World Time, Snooze, two daily alarms, Count Down, hourly signal, and Stop watch functions. 4) 10 years battery which is better than solar battery (if solar battery never die), or it will be more expensive to replace a solar. 5) Casio always uses 4 screws to secure the back plate, much easier to replace the battery than other brands. 6) It has a smaller case (44 mm) with a larger LED display. Neutral: 1) Telememo, I don't know who needs this, because smart phones can do much more. Also, I try not to buy a watch with Waveceptor, smart phone can always pick up the correct time right after the airplane touch down. However, Waveceptor can auto reset the watch, but the problem is if it can receive the signal? and for how long? I still prefer the old school way to manually adjust. Con: 1) There is no pull out button to set up the analog, and this watch can only go forward. For example, if analog is 2 min faster, then I have to forward the hand for 11 hours and 58 min to correct it, that is a lot of pain, even you can hold both C & D to have the hand auto advance. Or, it only need to go backward for 2 min. 2) It can show two time zones time, but the digital day-date only matches with the digital time. One can not set the day-date to match with the analog. Overall, I love this watch, and there is a metal version "AMW830D-2AV".

Nice, old school style Casio watch!
Color: Black/Silver
Nice watch for the price! It looks a lot like the old school G-Shock that I had in the 1990's. Of course it is not built like a tank like the G-Shock was. However it is a very nice everyday watch with plenty of useful functions. It even comes with a 10 year battery! Bonus! I bought the "Used, Like New" option for a VERY discounted price and it still came in the original packaging with the instruction booklet. Go ahead. Get one. You know you want to.

Cool looking everyday basic watch for low price
Color: Tan
Good looking watch, especially in Tan color. Looks like a G-Shock but for much lower price. Has some useful basic functions, good for swimming, very light. But: - it has actually 4 buttons, no button at the right top - TEL feature - can save up to 30 phone numbers. Does anyone used this feature in the last 20 years? - Black digital display is not very well visible. Strange it is not lightened at all by the watch light. Only analog display (which is glowing in the dark) is lightened. - The analog and digital time need to be set separately. - some buttons beep and some not, and this cannot be changed. The bottom line: cool looking everyday basic watch for low price.
