曾任美術設計，現為童書作家，與柯丁共同策畫、改寫並出版一系列文學經典作品。

臺灣最多產的科普作家、動物學家，臺灣大學動物研究所碩士、京都大學理學研究科博士班結業。只翻譯自己喜歡的書，主題多半是動物、科普、屁屁、便便、推理等，同時也是科普作家與推理評論家。
著譯超過一百八十本，目標為「著作等歲數、譯作等身」。第五屆吳大猷科學普及著作獎少年組翻譯類特別獎、第四十屆兒童及少年圖書類金鼎獎得主。
