Designed for demanding network environments, the Black Box LGC5150A Transceiver/Media Converter bridges copper Ethernet and fiber links with rock-solid reliability. Built to endure harsh conditions, this device delivers EMI/RFI immunity through its fiber interface, helping networks stay stable even in industrial settings, data centers, and field deployments. The LGC5150A is engineered for seamless integration, providing true plug-and-play operation with auto-negotiation, auto-MDI/MDI-X (auto-cross), and advanced fault handling features that reduce downtime and simplify network maintenance. Whether you need to extend reach, isolate segments for security, or create robust disaster-recovery pathways, this media converter is a versatile, compact solution that fits a wide range of rack, cabinet, or wall-mount installations.

  • Autonegotiation across speeds: The unit automatically negotiates line speed among 10, 100, and 1000 Mbps to match your network, ensuring optimal performance without manual reconfiguration.
  • Auto-cross (MDI/MDI-X) support: Use either straight-through or crossover cables without worrying about port wiring, simplifying installation and reducing cable clutter.
  • LFPT for easy fault diagnosis: Link Fault Pass-Through provides clear fault indication across interfaces, accelerating troubleshooting and minimizing network downtime.
  • Fiber-based EMI/RFI immunity: The fiber link delivers superior protection against electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference, helping maintain signal integrity in noisy environments.
  • Jumbo frame capability: Supports jumbo frames, enabling efficient transmission of large data payloads and improving performance for storage and server traffic.

How to install Black Box LGC5150A

Installing the LGC5150A is straightforward and designed to minimize any disruption to your existing network. Follow these steps to deploy the transceiver/media converter quickly and confidently, whether you are extending a campus network, linking a data center rack to a storage array, or integrating remote sites into your main LAN.

  • Prepare your cables and interfaces: Identify the copper Ethernet port and the fiber optic port on the LGC5150A. Confirm connector types (for fiber: SC, LC, or other standard connectors) and the fiber mode required by your link (multi-mode or single-mode). Ensure you have the appropriate fiber patch cable and copper Ethernet cable (straight-through or crossover, noting that Auto-cross is supported).
  • Connect the fiber link: Insert the fiber patch cable into the device’s optical port. Verify the connector is securely seated and oriented correctly. If your deployment uses Audio/Visual or industrial-grade enclosures, route the cable to minimize bend radius and protect against interference or mechanical stress. Observe link/activity indicators to confirm a healthy fiber connection.
  • Connect the copper Ethernet link: Plug the RJ-45 Ethernet cable into the LGC5150A’s copper port. Connect the other end to your switch, router, or network appliance. If your switch supports Auto-MDI/MDI-X, you can use a straight-through cable; otherwise, a crossover cable is automatically accommodated by the device’s auto-cross feature.
  • Power up and verify operation: Apply power to the unit and observe the status LEDs. A steady link LED (and service LED, if present) typically indicates a healthy connection. If a fault is indicated, use the LFPT feature to identify whether the issue resides on the copper or fiber side and triage accordingly.
  • Optimize performance and security: Depending on your network design, you may want to enable jumbo frames on the connected devices to maximize throughput for large data transfers. If you are segmenting traffic for security or management reasons, ensure that the link is properly configured in your switches and routers to support the intended VLANs or QoS policies.
  • Testing and validation: Run throughput tests, ping continuity, and verify that devices on both sides can communicate at the expected speed. Confirm that devices recognize the link type (Ethernet over fiber) and that LFPT status aligns with your fault-diagnosis expectations. Document the configuration for future maintenance.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is the primary purpose of the Black Box LGC5150A? It serves as a fiber-to-Ethernet transceiver/media converter, enabling a copper Ethernet link to connect via fiber, providing EMI/RFI immunity and flexible deployment options in harsh environments.
  • Does it support different Ethernet speeds? Yes. The unit autonegotiates among 10, 100, and 1000 Mbps, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of switches, hubs, and endpoints without manual reconfiguration.
  • What is Link Fault Pass-Through (LFPT) and why is it important? LFPT signals fault conditions from the fiber and copper interfaces to the connected devices, helping network administrators quickly identify and diagnose problems across the link.
  • Can I use straight-through and crossover cables with this device? Yes. The LGC5150A features Auto-cross, which detects cable type and adjusts accordingly, so you can use either straight-through or crossover cables.
  • Are jumbo frames supported? Yes. The unit supports jumbo frames to enhance performance for large data transfers, such as storage backups or media streaming, depending on compatible switch settings.
  • Is installation difficult? No. The device is designed for straightforward plug-and-play installation. Fiber and copper connections are simple, and auto-negotiation plus LFPT reduce the need for complex configuration.
  • What environments is the LGC5150A suitable for? It is well-suited for industrial, data-center, campus, and lab environments where EMI/RFI resilience and reliable fiber links improve network stability.
  • What should I do if the link indicators show no activity? First verify the fiber connection is correctly seated and the fiber type matches the network’s requirements. Check LFPT status indicators, ensure the copper port is connected to a live device, and confirm power is stable. If needed, test with alternate cables to rule out a faulty lead.

Quality shoe but with a slight squeak.
Size: 10 Wide, Color: Burgundy Polished Full Grain
Nice shoes with the classic Penny Loafer design. Fit was better than another brand I tried. Only reason not 5 starts is disappointment due to a slight squeak at times when walking.

Exact item ordered, quick delivery
Size: 9.5, Color: Black Polished Full Grain
I ordered these black Cole Haan penny loafers for casual wear with jeans, khakies, and even business casual with slacks and a jacket. They've always worked perfectly for these uses. The Cole Haan version is the most versatile and still meets my sophisticated look criteria. I wear a 9 1/2 M with almost all other shoes. I have found Cole Haan to run slightly wider and slightly shorter. This fit will work with thin and no socks and a little loose in width. . I'd likely order a 10 N next time. I tend to forget this but it runs consistent with me for Cole Haan. 5 stars for the shoe and service. My bad on the slightly off fit.

Poor quality control - maybe outlet store leftovers
Size: 11.5, Color: Burgundy Polished Full Grain
The two shoes were not the same size. They were both labeled 11 1/2 but one shoe was larger than the other and the fit was poor. I returned the first pair and ordered a replacement. This time the shoes were close to the same size but too loose and the left one has sewing issues. I've bought Johnston & Murphy for years because of the quality. These were to replace an existing pair of burgundy penny loafers that have finally worn out (even after several heal/sole replacements). That is the expected quality. I suspect Nashville Shoe Warehouse may be handling shoes that didn't measure up for the quality; more like an outlet mall than getting the J&M quality I've come to expect. Update: went to Johnston & Murphy site to buy "direct" from the manufacturer. There were several recent reviews where the shoes were long and didn't fit properly. Genesco - please step up the manufacture / crafting of these classic shoes to the level of quality they used to have.
