Lucy’s head, body and limbs are knit in one piece from the top down. Her hair and two small pony tails are knitted separately and sewn on.

The use of raglan shaping makes Lucy’s arms slightly lifted and open, as though she’s always offering a hug.

Of course Lucy needs a suitable wardrobe for an outdoors-loving child. Red wellington boots for squelching through mud, a cosy cardigan to keep the chills at bay, and a pretty dress just for fun!

Lucy’s dress is knitted from the bottom up, starting with an Old Shale-inspired lace edging. Decreases are worked to the waist and then the knitting is split to form a front and two backs. At the end the neck, button and armbands are picked up and knit in garter stitch. Two buttons are sewn on to join the back.

The cardigan is knitted from the top down with raglan increases, in all over Moss Stitch.

With the addition of a turn down cuff at the top, the rest of the boot is simply knitted in the same way as Lucy’s lower legs and feet.

3mm (US2.5) 25cm/10” long dpns or 3mm (US2.5) 80cm/32” circular needles for magic loop

3.25mm (US3) 25cm/10” long dpns or 3.25mm (US3) 80cm/32” circular needles for magic loop

3.75mm/ US 5 25cm/10” long dpns or 3.75mm/ US 5 circular for magic loop

4mm/ US 6 25cm/10” long dpns or 4mm/ US 6 circular for magic loop

A small scrap of Bantam for embroidering the mouth

2 buttons for eyes

2 buttons for dress (7mm/ 1/4”)
