The watch
The Seiko SNXJ - a clear nod to the Rolex Datejust, much like the Mazda Miata echoed British sports cars of the ‘70s. Similar style, lower cost, and vintage soul. This discontinued model is increasingly hard to find.

In very good unpolished condition, with only light signs of wear on the case, bracelet, and crystal. Overall, it’s a clean and well-kept example. It features a 36mm stainless steel case and the reliable 7S26 automatic movement, gaining only 5 seconds per day. The day window offers bilingual display in English or Spanish.

Additional information
This model was produced in three phases, the earliest version (reference 7009-3110) was produced in the 80’s and 90’s. After that, Seiko released an updated version which was the 7S26-3110 with the rock solid 7S26 movement. The third iteration (officially named SNXJxx) was the 7S26-0500, which has a transparent caseback.  This also made the case a bit thicker, so if you like a thin case to stuff under your cuff, this 7009-3110 is the one you’re looking for.

The ‘5’ in Seiko 5 stands for 5 principles or features: automatic winding, a day/date display, water resistance (however, please don’t go swimming wearing this watch), a recessed crown and a durable case and bracelet.

Taking another look at this book
Format: Paperback
I am revising my review in fairness to the author. I purchased this book on the secondary market. For my initial review I had not read the book cover to cover. This book features an anthology of philosophical excerpts and writings on different topics concerning contemporary issues in ethics. The author prefaces each topic section with an overview of the pertinent legal, historical and social developments. This is followed by contributions on the subject from different philosophical viewpoints. Some of these contributions can be rather turgid, others easily digestible. As a whole, I find the book to offer good coverage of the topics. The book addresses many ethical issues with a fair degree of contemporaneous coverage but more ethical questions of seminal import are required. For instance, perhaps there ought to be other topics introduced for future revisions that are more poignant to life in the national security state, such as the ethics of social vigilance in response to domestic government spying, the abrogation of habeas corpus and war crimes such as droning and torture. These are serious ethical conundrums in our society that deserve consideration in any philosophy course focusing on contemporary issues in ethics. Having a more comprehensive reading of this book I have significantly upgraded my appreciation of its coverage and the work that went into it and I would recommend it to professors looking to introduce ethics studies in a philosophy curriculum.
