Background - What is work health and safety (WHS)?

Work health safety (WHS), also known as occupational health safety (OH&S), is the management of hazards to your employees' health and safety. This covers your employees, customers, visitors, and suppliers. Although it may be costly and time-consuming at first to put in safety procedures and purchase safety equipment, this is crucial to your business's success. You could face prosecution, fines or even the loss of your staff if you don't take action. You must also have a workers’ compensation insurance policy to protect your employees. Benefits

This course Participate in workplace health and safety (based on HLTWHS001) will help you earn the skills necessary to follow workplace policies and procedures for safe work practices and identify existing and potential hazards in the workplace, report them to designated persons, and record them according to workplace procedures.

Our Participate in workplace health and safety course is based on the unit of competency of HLTWHS001. Whilst this course is not nationally recognized, it follows the learning outcomes and elements associated with that unit. The course contains

What will you learn by completing the training course?

This course will include an understanding of awareness of the relevant legislation and your responsibilities in participating in workplace health and safety.

Learning outcomes include:

1. Identify and implement WHS procedures and work instructions
2. Identify and report incidents and injuries to designated persons according to workplace procedures
3. Take actions to maintain safe housekeeping practices in own work area
4. Raise WHS issues with designated persons according to organisational procedures
5. Participate in workplace safety meetings, inspections and consultative activities
6. Contribute to the development and implementation of safe workplace policies and procedures in own work area
7. Identify ways to maintain currency of safe work practices in regards to workplace systems, equipment and processes in own work area
8. Reflect on own levels of stress and fatigue, and report to designated persons according to workplace procedures

What Accreditation Will You Get?

After completing the Participate in workplace health and safety course, an assessment is conducted to determine if you have understood the information presented during the training course. If you pass this assessment, you receive a Certificate of Completion.

IMPORTANT NOTE whilst this course is based on the learning outcomes of the course provided, it is important to note that it is not a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment unless you opt for that option. Nationally Recognised training is only really required If you specifically require that unit of competency for a qualification or licence (typically this will require a practical component, further assessment and increased costs).

This course has been designed to comply with the best practices of national health and safety standards. Terminology has been chosen for clarity and ease of comprehension across jurisdictions. For example, ‘employer’ has been used to signify the broader term ‘PCBU’, while ‘WHS’ represents both work and occupational health and safety.

This training is not a substitute for professional legal advice. If you require further advice or information, please contact the health and safety regulator in your jurisdiction. A Certificate of Completion is issued on successful completion of the course and you are required to get an 80% pass mark to be deemed as understanding the content. It is recommended that training is conducted every 2 years to stay refreshed.
