3CD - UK Import

Second volume of early 70s British studio pop hits, misses and oddities.

Issued in 2020, ‘Bubblerock Is Here To Stay’ shone a spotlight on the lost and often murky world of early 70s British Pop, a scene largely controlled by old-fashioned, Denmark Street- based production/songwriting teams as the Rock world concentrated on the album market.

Another four-hour 3CD set, ‘Bubblerock Is Here To Stay Volume Two’ treads the same neglected path to deliver more mouldy old dough from the era's backroom boys: crack songwriting teams (Cook/Greenaway, Carter/Lewis, Chinn/Chapman), hit-or-bust producers (Phil Wainman, Jonathan King), session singers (Tony Burrows, Sue And Sunny), and writers-turned-performers (Lynsey de Paul, Barry Blue, Phillip Goodhand- Tait).

Featuring a number of hits that define the era but have long been swept under the carpet of critical/collector cool: Slade's first major single, Brotherhood Of Man's anthemic 'United We Stand', Lieutenant Pigeon's novelty chart-topper plus Top Ten 45s from Lynsey de Paul, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Middle Of The Road, The Pipkins, Greyhound, Judge Dread, Marmalade and Blue Mink.

Including numerous fascinating obscurities: Jesus Christ Superstar lyricist Tim Rice channels his inner Del Shannon, the mysterious Kidrock pick up the kinder-pop baton from Mark Wirtz, Raw Holly cut an LP of Buddy Holly songs in a more contemporary musical setting, and a Midlands-based harmony pop act look to break their chart duck by raiding The Grateful Dead songbook.

Joined by late 60s underground renegades attempting to snag a hit single (Fairfield Parlour, Velvet Opera) and sundry one-off studio aliases (Smoky Forbes, Helicopter, the Elaine Paige-assisted Hooters), ‘Bubblerock Is Here To Stay Volume Two’ is another opportunity to wallow in the sounds of what one reviewer of the first volume warily described as “dubious pop”. Dubious pop?! Gimme dat ding!

Thick, robust and the perfect blend of dressy/casual
Color: Dark Tort/Green, Polarization Type: Non-Polarized, Lens Width: 50 Millimeters, Color: Dark Tort/Green, Polarization Type: Non-Polarized, Lens Width: 50 Millimeters
To be honest this is my first pair of sunglasses that costs more than $25. I never really knew why one would spend more on something you might sit on or lose. Decided to try these after realizing I wanted better clarity in the lenses. First impression on trying them on was the weight difference. These are quite a bit heavier than my cheaper pairs. Once I examined the materials I could see why. The build quality is excellent. The tortoise pattern is rich and looks high quality. Love the polished metal accents. At first I was a little leary about the metal on the front edges (i'm not a very "shiny" guy") but now I think it helps strike a balance between dressier glasses and casual. Very glad I stuck with these through the first few awkward moments. Wasn't sure about the shape at first but now i'm locked in. Curious to see what else Quay has to offer!

Stylish looks, good lenses, warped frame?
Color: Dark Tort/Green, Polarization Type: Non-Polarized, Lens Width: 50 Millimeters
These sunglasses have nice build quality and good lenses on them. The green tint is not too strong and the style is excellent. My frames sit crooked on my face out of the box and they do not lay evenly on the counter when laying them down on the top surface. you can tap on one of the arms and the frames wobble. Looking at the main piece where the lenses are, the whole thing appears to be slightly twisted., which would explain the crooked fit on my face. Granted, our faces and ears aren't usually perfectly symmetrical, but this seems to be a fault of the sunglasses. I have tried lightly bending and twisting the frames to straighten them out, but I have not been entirely successful in doing so in fear of breaking them. They are comfortable to wear and look pretty stylish, but some information on adjusting the frames would be nice.

Sleek and stylish
Color: Dark Tort/Green, Polarization Type: Non-Polarized, Lens Width: 50 Millimeters, Color: Dark Tort/Green, Polarization Type: Non-Polarized, Lens Width: 50 Millimeters
Sleek and stylish sunglasses in a dark tortoise pattern. Simple classic design. Unisex design and fit. I especially like the wired sides that are easy and safe to customized to your head, ear, nose fit and comfort. Seems like a good value for quality, design, comfort and fit. Comes with a slim case. Nice sunglasses overall!

Sturdy & well made & they stay in place!
Color: Dark Tort/Green, Polarization Type: Non-Polarized, Lens Width: 50 Millimeters, Color: Dark Tort/Green, Polarization Type: Non-Polarized, Lens Width: 50 Millimeters
Wow, these are really nice & well made sunglasses!! I love them better than my prescription sunglasses that I paid a ton for that I really don't need when I am out in the sun. They have some weight to them and don't feel like cheap sunglasses you get off the rack in a drugstore and they fit comfortably on my face and nose. The build-in nose pads hold them in place so they don't slip down my nose!! They come packaged with care in a nice carrying case and there's a lens-cloth included in the package. The price on these won't break the bank and I'm really glad to have found them as I do spend a lot of time in the sun or bright light.
