Exceptional, 1920s oil painting depicting the backside of a young, nude woman in her boudoir or bedroom. She’s accompanied by her loyal and curious companions. A black Scottie dog and a brown cat. The scene is set with a playful two tone, sky blue wall paper, an old white wire bed and a bouquet of flowers. The most curious is she’s standing on her tiptoes, wearing only a pair of slippers paired with cherry red stockings that haven’t been pulled up yet, peeping out a door. The question is, “what is behind the door?”

This painting is in excellent condition and beautifully framed. Canvas has been nailed into the wood stretcher. The inch measurement has been stamped into the wood, suggesting American origin. Encapsulates the style of American realism, paired with a bit of whimsy a caricature. Signed but signature is unfortunately illegible. I love that this exudes a naïveté + innocence as opposed to being sexually driven or suggestive. The composition and inclusion of components truly make a striking and masterful work.
