The CRU RAX RAX848-XJ Drive Enclosure is engineered to deliver massive storage capacity in a compact 4U chassis, making it an ideal solution for data centers, workstation farms, media production studios, and enterprise archives. This 16-bay, 2.5-inch drive enclosure provides expansive external storage with ultra-fast data transfer capabilities, designed to support demanding workloads without sacrificing reliability or scalability. Its Mini-SAS host interface ensures high-bandwidth connectivity to servers, controllers, or storage networks, enabling efficient data movement across large arrays. Built for resilience and easy integration into existing racks, the RAX848-XJ is a practical choice for organizations that need substantial raw storage with flexible deployment options. While it ships in a Non-RAID configuration, it is compatible with a wide range of software RAID or JBOD configurations managed by the host controller, empowering you to tailor storage topology to your workflow. Whether you’re expanding a backup reservoir, streaming media libraries, or powering analytics pipelines, this enclosure is designed to keep up with evolving data demands while staying straightforward to install and manage.

  • Massive 16-bay storage: A 16 x 2.5" drive bay chassis packs substantial capacity into a compact 4U footprint, enabling large-scale storage expansion without needing additional shelves or enclosures.
  • High-bandwidth Mini-SAS interface: The Mini-SAS host interface delivers multi-lane performance for parallel data transfers, reducing bottlenecks when moving large files or streaming data to and from the enclosure.
  • Rack-ready 4U form factor: Engineered for standard 19-inch racks, the enclosure integrates cleanly into data centers and editing suites where space optimization and reliability matter.
  • Non-RAID architecture by design: Operates without built-in RAID within the enclosure, presenting raw disks to the host so you can implement software RAID or JBOD configurations exactly as your environment requires.
  • External storage for diverse workloads: Perfect for media workflows, backups, virtual environments, data analytics, and archival storage, delivering scalable capacity with consistent performance.

Technical Details of CRU RAX RAX848-XJ

how to install CRU RAX RAX848-XJ

  • Prepare your rack space with a compatible 19-inch rack and ensure you have the necessary mounting rails or ears. Verify the area has adequate ventilation and accessible power supply options to support a 4U enclosure and multiple drives.
  • Mount the enclosure in the rack: Slide the chassis into the rack rails and secure it with the appropriate screws. Confirm the enclosure is firmly seated and level to prevent vibration or misalignment during operation.
  • Install the 16 x 2.5" HDDs: Open each drive bay, slide in the drives, and attach them to backplane connectors as required by the chassis design. Use the provided drive trays or mounting hardware to secure drives, ensuring firm engagement with the backplane to avoid connection issues.
  • Connect the Mini-SAS cables: Attach the Mini-SAS cables from your host controller, server backplane, or storage switch to the enclosure’s backplane interface. Use cables of appropriate length and pin configuration per your bandwidth needs and system topology.
  • Power up and verify: Connect the enclosure to a reliable power source and power on. Confirm that the host detects the enclosure and that all drives are recognized. Since the design is Non-RAID, format and mount each drive via your operating system or storage management software, then configure your preferred software RAID or JBOD strategy at the host level. Perform firmware checks and apply updates if available to ensure compatibility and stability.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is the total usable capacity of the CRU RAX RAX848-XJ? The enclosure provides 16 bays for 2.5" drives, so total usable capacity depends on the drives you install. Since the enclosure is Non-RAID by design, capacity is determined by the host-side configuration, file system choices, and the RAID or JBOD strategy you implement with your controller or software stack.
  • Is this enclosure RAID-enabled? No. The RAX848-XJ is designed for Non-RAID operation, presenting raw disks to the host. RAID or JBOD configurations are managed by the host controller or software, not by the enclosure itself.
  • What kind of interface connects to a server? It uses a Mini-SAS host interface, which provides high-bandwidth, multi-lane connectivity suitable for handling throughput across multiple disks in parallel.
  • Can I mix HDDs and SSDs in the same enclosure? The product description specifies HDD support. SSD compatibility depends on the backplane and controller specifications. If you plan to mix drive types, verify backplane compatibility and supported drive types with the vendor or product documentation before purchase.
  • What workloads is the CRU RAX RAX848-XJ best suited for? This enclosure excels in external storage applications requiring high disk density and reliable throughput, such as media asset libraries, backups and archival storage, data analytics staging, and large-scale media processing pipelines where raw disk access is advantageous and software-level storage management is preferred.

Great vacuum!!
Style: L50 SES
I love this vacuum. I had to work a little to get the map right for it, but it is great. We have allergies and it helps so much and saves so much time. It does take a while to do the whole house, but I have it programmed to run while we are at work and it’s so nice to come home to a freshly vacuumed house.

Eufy dropped the ball on this vacuum
Style: L50 SES
I’ll start by saying the reason I purchased this vacuum, is because I have a Eufy 25c robot vacuum that is very dependable. I decided I wanted an upgrade because the 25C was great for cleaning, but I had to empty it way too often. I just knew I would love the L50 SES. I thought it was just what I was looking for a self emptying robot vacuum with a 60 day fill capacity. Allowing 2 months before I needed to touch my vacuum. Here’s where things went wrong. I never got a chance to test the vacuum because it wouldn’t connect to my WiFi and I tried everything. Now this wouldn’t have been a problem if the L50 came with a remote control like the 25C. Unfortunately I had to rely on the App and since the L50 couldn’t connect to my WiFi, I couldn’t control the vacuum. The reason I gave 2 stars is because the customer service at Eufy is awesome. I was given the option to replace the vacuum with a new one but after researching the L50 i decided to return it for a refund. Apparently this model has a defect, because I found so many negative reviews about the same issue with the same model. The thing is I never read reviews because I have a Eufy smart scale, 25C robot vacuum and an Eufy security system and everything works perfectly. So in the end I purchased a Shark Matrix Self emptying robot vacuum and a Shark self emptying stick vacuum. If Shark’s vacuum preforms well, Eufy might have lost a valued customer. I hope this review helps someone make a informed decision. By the way Eufy self emptying vacuum needs replacement bags and the Shark Matrix robot vacuum doesn’t need bags. I will say the suction and design on the Eufy L50 SES was great.

Much better than the old model.
Style: L50 SES
I had an old s11 that finally died. This one is much better. It maps the house and follows a snake pattern. Once the mapping is finished you can select what rooms you want to clean. I like the self emptying feature. Plenty of battery life.

Good performance, flaky Wi-Fi connection
Style: L50 SES
The L50 physically works great - it does a good job of picking up dust and dirt at the end of the day. The pathfinder and route planning algorithm is fairly efficient at determining the best way to clean a room. Sometimes it kicks around bits of dust with its spinning brush without picking it up, but it's not often. What has been terrible, however, is the Wi-Fi support. Since our provider disabled 2.4 GHz support from their router modem without notice, I use a Mac Mini to supply the 2.4 GHz signal, and even though the Eufy is next to it and my phone gets full signal strength, it still can't connect to it half the time. After it fails to connect, it needs to be restarted or even reset to try to get the connection again. Support doesn't seem to be helpful in offering a solution.

Incredible robot.
Size: 11S MAX, Size: 11S MAX
I have had this vacuum for nearly a year now, running it on an automatic schedule every single day, and I am so grateful for this product and how it has improved my quality of life. This vacuum and its automatic schedule has meant that I rarely see any dust or dog hair on my floor and I no longer have to take the time to vacuum. The amount of dust this machine collects is unbelievable- the photo I included of the yield is from HALF of a cycle. Flooring/obstacles I use my eufy on hard floor and short carpet and it works wonderfully. It does snag on high pile rugs so I try to put my bathroom mat up when I remember. Eufy does get stuck on things so it took some time to determine what picking up I need to do before it’s “shift.” This has not been a nuisance, it’s more of a good motivation to do a quick cleanup. Durability Also, long hair is a challenge and I do have to cut it out of the brush head about once a week. I also recently replaced the brush head which was a great reset. The side spin brush also broke down over a few months and replacing that REALLY improved the power of the machine. I’ll be replacing it as soon as I notice breakage now. Noise I think it has gotten a bit louder over the year I have owned it. I used to be able to sleep through the noise, now it’s a bit too loud for me especially as it gently bangs against the walls (doesn’t scuff though). Overall, this is a gift and I will never not have one for the rest of my life
