This artwork was inspired by the idea of the greening of the soul or 'Viriditas' by the 12th century Saint, Hildegard of Bingen. She was, among many other things, a botanist, healer, mystic, composer and philosopher. Using watercolour, I have explored this idea of the spiritual blossoming of the soul, or the divine, vital force which enables growth, healing and fertility. This is the unseen force which connects all of creation. This artwork measures 26.5 x 16cm unframed.

About the artist.

I'm Phoebe Louise, a painter and illustrator living in Brisbane but often dreaming of existing in another time and place. I've had a vivid imagination and have been drawing and painting ever since I can remember. Since leaving school, I have studied Illustration, fashion design, silversmithing, watercolour and pattern design and I've been continually exploring the multifaceted world of art. Working with watercolour for smaller illustrative pieces and acrylic for larger works, my style is a mix of surrealism, abstract and fantasy. I'm always taking inspiration from the unseen world and exploring themes of spirituality, folklore, energy and nature. My experience of painting can be described as a meditative journey that brings me joy.

Collection or delivery.

This item is part of the Plant Empire Small Wonders Exhibition 2026, on display from 9 May - 7 June. Exhibition items are available for sale in person or online.
