In this signed limited edition by Nigel Humphries, we see one of the world's most iconic and notorious characters rendered in an extra-ordinarily magical way. In his signature style with ripped paper backgrounds and still life toys, Humphries created another universe that appeals to our inner child and magically captures the imagination and nostalgia of childhood, bringing these feelings to life on canvas. The artist told us he wanted the collection to represent the main character’s journey from his early day at the school to his final battle with the main villain.

Sketched in charcoal first to achieve the fluidity and movement of the clothes, the “Final Battle” represents the climatic end of the saga with the magical fight between the beloved main character and villain. As old as time, this is the classic battle of good vs evil, in Nigel’s day it was cops and robbers, but for many growing up with these characters it’s the light and darkness of this magical universe. That theme is instantly recognisable and a part of almost every playful narrative you can imagine. With a crumbling building in the parchment paper on a purple background, the strong vibrant colours from the lightning bolts add a subtle touch of drama! Featuring the main character and the main villain, this endearing piece is the perfect gift for superfans of the saga!

This signed limited edition is Hand Varnished Canvas on Board and can also be purchased in a set of four.

Passionate about revolutionising the way we view still-life painting, the artist draws upon his childhood for inspiration. As a child, Nigel Humphries sketched dinosaurs and monsters, building upon his mediums of graphite, pencil, oil paint and more. Since then, his acclaimed collections of endearing miniature superheroes, sci-fi villains and iconic characters has brought to life some of the most popular characters of all time. By re-creating in still life, Nigel’s work evokes the feeling of childhood wonder and fun when playing with your own toys and of joy from these stories and quests.

Great substance; lousy writing.
Format: Kindle
Reviewing this book is not an easy task. Previously I had very limited knowledge of this period of history. With no background, I found the subject spellbinding. The author has done a wonderful job of gathering, and reconciling, ancient sources of mixed reliability. But, in undertaking that task, the text becomes repetitive, difficult to follow and frankly just plain boring. In addition, the writing style and format detracts substantially from the pleasure of learning from the substance. Everything from run-on sentences with mixed subjects to unclear antecedents, to character confusion because of similarity of names and the author's expectation that one can remember which player is on stage at any given moment. My main criticism of the book is that the downsides could have been avoided by application of the skills of a decent editor who instinctively would have addressed and corrected the confusion in presentation that made it a very difficult read. I hope that a cleaned up edition is prepared and the book released again; I think the effort would be worth the result.

This composer has written an amazing piece of music.
I like how an ancient setting coupled with a new style of composing can produce something so very special. The composer is very creative, and the artists do his work justice. A serious-minded classisist will love this DVD.

Good content but not great for Kindle
Format: Kindle
Solid writing with not-many editorial issues (rare these days so overall, that’s a thumbs up). Lots of links that take you to other pages, but in both a kindle and the kindle iOS app, you won’t find a way back to the original page, which is infuriating. Not super happy with the black-and-white photos, either.

More than a bit dry, but worth reading
Format: Hardcover
Nice, fresh look at Carthage. It can be a touch dry and in some places hard to read but worth the effort. Most histories of Carthage start and stop with the Punic Wars, this is a much more expansive look at Carthaginian and Phoenician history. Given its scope I would have expected a much larger book but Carthage was destroyed and along with it, so too was its history.
