GALESBURG (AP) — After a rigorous nine year investigation, lead by the F.B.I, the trial of the infamous serial killer Dennis H. Jr., AKA “Piggy” is concluding. Although most media has been barred from the courtroom over safety concerns, our inside correspondent has the scoop.

With evidence of the macabre- suitable only for horror movies- and testimony to turn your stomach, let us first take a step back and start at the beginning.

Horris Family Farms has been a household name for several decades. In fact, there are many readers of this publication who can probably still sing along with the jingle “It’s a Family Feast”, a slogan made famous by the company’s founder Dennis Horris Sr. in the company’s first national commercial of 1984.

Horris Family Farms thrived until the fall of 2005, when Senior's sudden death dealt a devastating financial blow. Ultimately, it wasn’t until Dennis H. Jr. laid claim to leadership that the company was saved from ruin. In one of Junior’s few public interviews after his father’s death, Junior stated, “Father held all of you as family, so the next time you are at the dinner table, remember that it truly is a family feast.” This greatly boosted the morale of their consumers, but it ultimately made the gruesome discovery of 1/18/2022 and the subsequent investigation all-the-more unsettling.

January 18, 2022- A product recall was placed on HFF ground beef after it was found to contain pieces of a polyethylene plastic. A serial number recovered from the plastic lead to a replacement knee from the missing person case of Rupert Benson. Benson, who disappeared in late December 2021, was last seen leaving his residence for a date via the popular anonymous dating app “Friend n’ Date”.

Courtroom testimony revealed that "Friend n’ Date” was just one of many apps used in these crimes. Junior, AKA "Piggy", admitted to luring 42 unsuspecting victims to their deaths on “Friend n’ Date” alone, but he stated that (when added with the other dating services) the total number was 106 victims. These numbers are called preposterous by some, while others still hold their breath for validation.

Friend n’ Date’s legal team stated publicly that they have released a list of all Junior’s contacts in cooperation with the court filings and have bravely called the remaining companies to follow suit despite privacy concerns.

Junior’s lawyers have fought hard to secure a life sentence, even as many are calling for Illinois to bring back the death penalty.

A final highlight of the case came Friday night, when Judge Brown asked Junior if he- despite the verdict of the case- would name his victims and tell where he hid their bodies to give their families rest. The state prosecutor added, “Dennis, the court asks you to show the same compassion that our justice system is forced to show you." After a deafening silence, Junior leaned back and smiled as he began humming the jingle “It’s a Family Feast”. The courtroom erupted in hollering, ending court for the day.
