The Lenovo QSFP+ 40GBASE-iSR4 Transceiver is a high-performance optical module designed for modern data centers and enterprise networks. Crafted for optical network and data networking applications, this 40GBASE-iSR4 transceiver delivers reliable, scalable bandwidth in a compact, hot-swappable QSFP+ form factor. Ideal for server-to-switch uplinks, spine-leaf fabrics, and high-density interconnects, it provides a cost-efficient path to 40 Gbps throughput across multimode fiber, enabling rapid deployment of virtualization, cloud services, and bandwidth-intensive workloads.

  • 40GBASE-iSR4 technology for four parallel 10G lanes: This transceiver aggregates 40 Gbps of data bandwidth by transmitting four 10 Gbps lanes in parallel, delivering a robust and scalable uplink option for demanding data-center networks and enterprise backbones. The SR4 (short-reach) design is optimized for high-speed interconnects over multimode fiber, supporting fast, low-latency data transfers across racks and clusters.
  • Optical interface on multimode fiber (MMF) with 850 nm VCSELs: The iSR4 implementation uses 850 nm VCSEL laser technology to enable SR performance over standard MMF (OM3/OM4). This enables cost-effective deployment on existing fiber infrastructure while maintaining excellent signal integrity for latency-sensitive applications and virtualization workloads.
  • QSFP+ hot-swappable form factor for easy maintenance: The module is designed to slide into standard QSFP+ ports with secure latching, allowing quick swaps and minimal downtime. This makes it ideal for data-center operations where uptime and speed of maintenance are critical, reducing disruption during upgrades or replacements.
  • Digital diagnostics monitoring (DDM) and reliability features: The transceiver supports digital diagnostics monitoring where applicable, providing real-time data on temperature, optical power, and transceiver status. This visibility helps network administrators monitor link health, perform proactive maintenance, and optimize performance across the fabric.
  • Broad compatibility and Lenovo ecosystem support: Engineered for Lenovo ThinkSystem environments and compatible with a wide range of QSFP+ ports in data-center gear, the 40GBASE-iSR4 transceiver integrates seamlessly with existing infrastructure. It’s backed by Lenovo’s support ecosystem, ensuring compatibility with firmware revisions and service options across Lenovo servers, switches, and storage networking devices.

how to install Lenovo QSFP+ 40GBASE-iSR4 Transceiver

  • Power down or ensure the host device is in a safe state before installation, following your data-center or vendor-specific procedures. This helps protect both the transceiver and the equipment port from unexpected electrical or mechanical stress.

  • Remove the protective caps from the QSFP+ port and the transceiver to prevent contamination of the optical interface. Inspect the port and connector area for any debris prior to insertion.

  • Align the transceiver with the QSFP+ port and slide it in firmly until it is fully seated and the latching mechanism engages. Do not force the module; if it does not seat with a gentle push, re-check alignment and try again.

  • Connect the multimode fiber cable to the transceiver using the appropriate MPO/MTP connector and ensure the ferrules are clean. Carefully route cables to avoid tension or bending stress that could degrade signal integrity.

  • Power on the equipment and verify the link status through the device management interface. If available, use digital diagnostics monitoring (DDM) to monitor optical power and temperature in real time, confirming a healthy, stable connection.

  • Perform a basic throughput test or loopback verification if your network policy requires it, and document the results for future reference. Regularly monitor the link health and firmware compatibility to maintain optimal performance over time.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: What is the Lenovo QSFP+ 40GBASE-iSR4 Transceiver used for?

A: It is a high-speed optical transceiver designed for 40 Gbps data-center and enterprise networks. It uses four parallel 10 Gbps SR lanes to deliver 40 Gbps aggregate bandwidth over multimode fiber, suitable for short-reach connections between servers, switches, and storage devices.

  • Q: What type of fiber and connectors does it require?

A: The module is intended for multimode fiber (MMF) with 850 nm VCSEL technology and MPO/MTP-style connectors typical of SR4 applications. This configuration supports high-density cabling in data centers and shelving environments.

  • Q: Is this transceiver compatible with non-Lenovo devices?

A: Yes. The 40GBASE-iSR4 QSFP+ transceiver is compatible with other vendors' QSFP+ ports that support the 40GBASE-iSR4 standard, provided the host devices and firmware revisions are compatible and validated for interoperability.

  • Q: Does it support digital diagnostics monitoring (DDM)?

A: Many Lenovo QSFP+ transceivers support DDM for real-time monitoring of parameters such as temperature and optical power. Availability depends on the specific model and firmware; refer to your device’s documentation to enable and view the monitoring data.

Good start to a series
Format: Kindle
I delayed reading the series for reasons I don’t remember. But my TBR list is huge so I thought I’d take a shot of this and I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t think the blurb about it was anything special. But it was a very good book. It took some interesting twists and turns. I am so glad the second book is already out. Because I would not have waited patiently. Very slow burn but good storyline. 🔥🔥/5

A good read
Format: Kindle
Multiple points of view. 3 Alpha men and an Omega male. She is a Beta in training for a new program placing betas in Alpha/Omega packs. Mila is only doing the program for the money to take care of her dad. She wasn't expecting to fall for a pack but when she sees this packs Omega she is done for. There is just something about him. His Alphas are good looking as well. Too bad she is hiding a secret and their government is acting shady. I liked it and can't wait to see where their story goes.

Slightly repetitive but I did love some things
Format: Kindle
I love this type of story. And omegaverse is one of my all time favorite genres. But there are a few things that pulled me out of my enjoyment while I was reading. It was repetitive at times as well as struggled with telling not showing. So we didn’t always feel like we were experiencing things with the main character. There were also some plot holes but they may still be answered in part 2. Now this isn’t to be said I didn’t enjoy parts of the story. I loved the almost instant love between Mila and Oliver. And how he started changing around her.

not bad
Format: Kindle
I loved the plot of this book. The characters just didn’t have a lot of depth. The connections and “love” just weren’t communicated very well in the writing. The author didn’t write the sweet psycho trope very well at all either. Lachlan was just a mess of a character.
