We Sold Our Soul for Rock 'n' Roll is a compilation album by Black Sabbath, released in January 1976 in the UK and on February 3, 1976, in the United States. Assembled without the band’s consent by their former management, it was issued by NEMS Records shortly after the label acquired the group’s back catalogue. Drawing heavily from their first four albums, the set distilled the early, formative years of Ozzy Osbourne–era Sabbath into a definitive introduction to their pioneering heavy metal sound.

Despite its unauthorized nature, the compilation features many of the band’s most enduring songs, including “Paranoid,” “Iron Man,” “War Pigs,” and “Children of the Grave.” A few deeper cuts, such as “Wicked World” and “The Wizard,” also appear, showcasing the darker, blues-based side of the group’s early work. The collection was packaged in a striking gatefold sleeve featuring a woman in a coffin clutching a metallic cross, an image that became one of the most recognizable visuals in the band’s history.

Though the band themselves profited little from its release, We Sold Our Soul for Rock 'n' Roll became one of the most popular entries in Black Sabbath’s catalogue. It went Silver in the UK shortly after release and eventually reached double platinum status in the United States.
