Donna Calleja creates paintings that are inspired by her observation of light on garden flowers, fruit and shells. She composes natural forms together for their shape, color and texture from direct observation and her imagination. She wants to interpret the beauty of light on natural forms and hopes to provide her viewers with a moment of quiet reflection. Her painting process begins with a bold underpainting that defines a composition of light and shadow. With close observation she adds layers of color to build texture and detail. She loves the quiet process of seeing the details slowly emerge in her small scale paintings. Donna retired from a full time career in art education to dedicate more time to painting. Her paintings have been on display in recent shows at Nahcotta, ConcordArt, E. Drumm Designs and The South Shore Art Center. Her paintings are created with acrylic paint on panel at her home studio in Watertown, MA.

About this collection: 
"Close To Home" My home is my shelter and the place where I paint. The flowers, fruit and shells in and outside my home and neighborhood inspired this collection of paintings. I love observing the quiet beauty of light in every season on the natural objects that are close to my home.
