How to install HPE ProLiant Server Family Riser Cards

Installing a ProLiant riser card is a straightforward process that follows standard server maintenance procedures. To ensure a safe and successful installation, prepare your workspace, review your server’s maintenance manual for model-specific steps, and follow these general guidelines. Always power down, unplug, and discharge any static electricity before handling internal components. Ground yourself using an anti-static strap if available, and keep track of screws and connectors to avoid misplacements during reassembly.

  • Step 1 — Power down and prepare: Power down the server, remove the access panel, and disconnect power cables. Place the unit on a stable, non-conductive surface and ensure you have adequate lighting to view internal components.
  • Step 2 — Access the riser slot: Identify the correct PCIe riser expansion slot for your ProLiant model. Some chassis provide dedicated riser slots beneath the motherboard tray or behind a removable shroud. Carefully remove any protective covers, if present, and verify there is no obstruction in the slot.
  • Step 3 — Remove existing riser or prepare the new card: If replacing an older riser, unscrew and detach it following the server’s maintenance procedure. If installing a new riser, prepare the card by verifying connectors and ensuring it is free of debris. Handle the card by its edges to avoid damaging components.
  • Step 4 — Install the riser card: Align the riser card with the slot’s connector, then press firmly to seat the card evenly. Secure the card with the appropriate screws or retention mechanism as defined by your server model. Double-check that the card is fully seated and that there is no visible gap between the slot and the riser.
  • Step 5 — reconnect, close, and test: Reattach any cables or shielding that were removed for access, replace the server cover, and reconnect power. Power up the server and enter the system BIOS/UEFI or iLO interface to confirm that the riser card is detected. Run a basic POST check and verify that the new PCIe devices are recognized by the operating system once booted.

For model-specific steps, refer to your server’s maintenance and installation guide. While the general process remains consistent across ProLiant families, connector orientations, screw locations, and required firmware versions can vary. After installation, ensure firmware and drivers are up to date to realize the full benefits of the expanded PCIe capabilities and to maintain compatibility with future hardware and software updates.

Works great. My male in wall lost interest since she could not win so I just need to rig it so that she wins every once in a while other than that it is great.

A good idea while it lasted.
Pattern Name: Dog
This toy was a great idea! I thought my Borador (1/2 Lab-1/2 Border Collie) that's constantly full of energy would love it. Unfortunately, he didn't want to play with it at all. Who knows. So I returned it and ordered a herding ball instead.

Fantastic toy for GSD and dogs that like to play tug-o-war
Pattern Name: Dog
We got this 6 months ago and it is our German Shepherd's favorite outside toy. It is the first thing she runs to when she goes outside. She will try to pull it off the rope with all her strength until she eventually launches it and has to go chase it down. She's obsessed! She is a very powerful chewer and destroys even the most durable rubber toys. It isn't a matter of if she will destroy it, but when. This toy has lasted so much longer than other toys, even high end 'indestructible' toys that cost 3 or 4 times as much. After a 6 month battle with the toy, she has won. I think our main mistake was that we didn't bring it in during the snow storms. The freezing temperatures must have made it more brittle, since we immediately noticed a crack start to form on the green ball as she played with it in the snow, which slowly spread until she we able to completely rip it off. I am definitely buying another one! A couple tips for strong chewers -Supervision is key at first for smart dogs. Our GSD quickly realized that the easiest way to get the ball is to chew through the thin bungie ropes. However, we were there to redirect her to the ball. After a few times, she stopped trying to chew through the bungie rope part. She must have realized that it is more fun to chase and pull on the ball than simply trying to solve the problem of how to get it. -Make sure the ball hung high enough up where your dog can't casually stand there and chew on the ball or ropes with their powerful back teeth. This doesn't mean hang it super high so they have to jump for it, but just so they can't hold it without there being some resistance on the rope. If there is some resistance they will want to pull back instead of destructively chew. -Bring it inside during extra cold weather.
