The Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM Telephoto Lens stands as a pinnacle in fast, professional telephoto primes. Designed for serious photographers who demand breathtaking portrait separation, superb low-light performance, and razor-sharp detail, this L-series lens delivers stellar results with digital cameras and beyond. Its fast maximum aperture of f/2 provides generous light-gathering ability, enabling dramatic subject isolation and beautiful background blur even when shooting indoors or in challenging lighting. Built around Canon’s renowned L-series optics, this 135mm prime offers outstanding image quality, reliable autofocusing, and a robust, professional build that is ready for demanding assignments—from indoor sports to studio portraits and environmental portraits where every pixel counts.

  • Unmatched speed and subject isolation — The fast f/2 aperture enables dramatic background separation and subject emphasis even in dim indoor environments. With careful exposure, you can achieve a shallow depth of field that flatters portraits, creates a sense of depth, and keeps the subject crisp while the background dissolves into creamy bokeh. This makes it an ideal choice for head-and-shoulders portraits, candid studio shots, and event photography where light is often less than ideal.
  • Outstanding optical quality with UD-glass elements — The lens incorporates two UD-glass elements to correct secondary spectrum, delivering exceptional sharpness and color accuracy from edge to edge. This correction minimizes chromatic aberrations and color fringing, ensuring faithful skin tones, crisp textures, and true-to-life color rendition across the frame—even at wide open f/2. You’ll notice improved micro-contrast and detail in foliage, fabrics, and fine delineation in hair strands and eyelashes.
  • Fast, precise autofocus with a quiet Ultrasonic Motor — The USM drive delivers swift, accurate focusing with minimal hunting, which is essential for candid portraits, sports action, and fast-changing scenes. The combination of a responsive AF system and manual override allows you to lock focus quickly and fine-tune composition on the fly, helping you capture decisive moments with confidence and control.
  • Professional build quality for serious photographers — As an L-series telephoto prime, this lens features a sturdy, all-metal exterior and a design that prioritizes optical performance and durability. The construction is designed to withstand frequent use on location, in studios, and during high-demand shoots with digital cameras. Its size and balance pair well with a wide range of Canon bodies, offering stable handling when tracking subjects at a distance or working with shallow depth of field effects.
  • Versatile performance for portraits, indoor sports, and events — The 135mm focal length provides flattering perspective for portraits, allowing comfortable working distances in studio or low-light venues. At the same time, it remains a practical choice for indoor sports and events where you want compressed perspective, subject separation, and crisp detail. The combination of fast aperture, sharp optics, and reliable AF makes it a go-to lens for professionals who shoot both people and action under varied lighting conditions.

How to install Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM Telephoto Lens

Step 1: Power down your camera body to protect the electronics and sensor while mounting the lens. Step 2: Align the lens’s red dot (or alignment mark) with the camera’s corresponding mount marker. Step 3: Gently insert the lens into the camera mount and rotate clockwise until you hear a click, indicating a secure fit. Step 4: Lift the lens cap away if attached and power on the camera to verify connection and communication between body and lens. Step 5: Set the camera to an appropriate shooting mode (manual or aperture priority) and choose an exposure suitable for the scene, considering the lens’s fast f/2 aperture. Step 6: When not in use, replace the front and rear caps to protect the optics, then store the lens in a padded case to preserve alignment and performance. Step 7: Periodically clean the lens contacts with a clean, dry cloth or a dedicated electronic-safe wipe to maintain optimal autofocus performance and accurate metering. Step 8: If needed, mount to a sturdy body or support system for handheld use, or pair with a monopod/tripod for extra stability during longer sessions or panning shots.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is the Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM suitable for portraits? Yes. The fast f/2 aperture creates shallow depth of field and smooth background blur, delivering flattering portraits with strong subject separation and high image quality. The 135mm focal length also provides a flattering perspective for head-and-shoulders and environmental portraits, allowing you to compress background elements while keeping the subject crisp and prominent.
  • What cameras is it compatible with? The lens uses the Canon EF mount, so it is compatible with Canon EOS DSLR bodies and film SLRs that support the EF mount. When used on modern digital bodies, it benefits from the lens’s fast aperture and optical design to maximize image quality and AF performance.
  • Does it have image stabilization? The Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM relies on a fast aperture and precise focusing for handholding at shorter shutter speeds. It does not include built-in optical image stabilization, so use of a stable stance, support systems, or higher shutter speeds is recommended when shooting in low light or at longer focal lengths.
  • How should I care for and maintain this lens? Regularly wipe down the exterior with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove dust and fingerprints. Use a proper lens hood when shooting in bright sun to reduce flare, and store the lens in a padded case when not in use. Periodically check for dust inside the front element and consider professional cleaning if needed to preserve peak optical performance.

Good looking toy that has held up well
Style: Coyote, Style: Coyote
Very durable toy that our little dog especially loves. It's the perfect size for a small dog and she doesn't destroy toys anyway so it's been great. It does feel very durable though and would take our chewer a little while to get to it as well. I'm not sure it looks like a coyote but the dogs don't seem to mind. It's an attractive toy that looks great and is constructed well so it's not like a slobbery mess when left out. Good value for the money and would make a great gift because it looks higher quality than most toys.

May be ballistic nylon, but the seams are flimsy.
Style: Gator, Style: Gator
I really wanted my pup to like this toy because it looks great and feels solid at first. The design is fun, the material seems tough, and it definitely gives the impression that it can handle some rough play. Unfortunately, that didn’t turn out to be the case at all. After just about 5 minutes of play, the top seam split open and stuffing started coming out. This wasn’t even extreme chewing, just normal play, and it failed almost immediately. As you can see in the photos, the tear happened right along the top seam, which is exactly where you’d expect a toy to be reinforced. Once it opened up, the toy was essentially done. For something marketed as ballistic nylon, this was really disappointing. It might be fine for very gentle dogs, but if your dog has even moderate chewing habits, this likely won’t last. Based on my experience, I wouldn’t recommend it. especially at 19.99 which is the price at time of my review, I feel it does not offer good value for money.

A Surprisingly Tough Favorite for All Four of My Dogs
Style: Armadillo, Style: Armadillo
I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Hound 2.0 stuffed armadillo toy, but it has been a total hit in my house. Neither the dogs nor I have managed to find the squeaker yet—so it’s either missing or extremely well hidden—but honestly, the dogs don’t seem to care at all. They love this thing. I have four dogs ranging from a 22 lb Boston Terrier to an 85 lb pitbull, plus two medium Blue Heelers in between, and this toy has been thoroughly tested by every size and play style. I was a little unsure whether they’d like the harder “shell” portion of the armadillo, but they actually love it. It gives the toy a unique texture and makes it feel more durable. Before this, I knew nothing about the Hound 2.0 brand, but I’m a fan now. My little Boston Terrier is notorious for ripping every toy he touches, and this armadillo has stood up to him like a champ. The tag said it was made for outdoor play, wrestling, and chewing—and that’s absolutely true. I haven’t taken it outside yet, but inside it has survived rough play from all four dogs and still looks brand new. I also love that each toy in this line is a different animal with the hard parts in different places. It makes them feel unique instead of just the same toy in different shapes. I’ll definitely be buying more of these. If you have a pup—big, small, or anywhere in between—I’d recommend giving this toy a try. It’s been a winner in my multi‑dog home.

Unique armadillo design
Style: Armadillo
I love the look of this armadillo toy. The flexible rubber shell gives it a spiky texture. It has reinforced nylon seams and printed eyes. The feet allow the toy to stand on its own, daring dogs to come knock it over. With a body length of 12" and standing 5" tall, the toy is of good size for even larger dogs, but it intimidated my 8lb yorkie mix. She found the hard shell and spikes off-putting and not fun. The toy is supposed to squeak, but either mine was broken or buried too deep to be useful. This was disappointing because I think a squeak would have helped my pup engage with the toy because she can't resist a noisy toy. I'd recommend this armadillo for larger dogs than my tiny pup. It seems durable with that rubber shell around the body.
