"A lively history . . . [Jones] has managed to touch every major topic. As each piece of the puzzle is placed into position, the modern world gradually comes into view . . . Powers and Thrones provides the reader with a framework for understanding a complicated subject, and it tells the story of an essential era of world history with skill and style."—The New York Times
The New York Times bestselling author returns with an epic history of the medieval world—a rich and complicated reappraisal of an era whose legacy and lessons we are still living with today.
When the once-mighty city of Rome was sacked by barbarians in 410 and lay in ruins, it signaled the end of an era—and the beginning of a thousand years of profound transformation. In a gripping narrative bursting with big names—from St Augustine and Attila the Hun to the Prophet Muhammad and Eleanor of Aquitaine—Dan Jones charges through the history of the Middle Ages. Powers and Thrones takes readers on a journey through an emerging Europe, the great capitals of late Antiquity, as well as the influential cities of the Islamic West, and culminates in the first European voyages to the Americas.
The medieval world was forged by the big forces that still occupy us today: climate change, pandemic disease, mass migration, and technological revolutions. This was the time when the great European nationalities were formed; when the basic Western systems of law and governance were codified; when the Christian Churches matured as both powerful institutions and the regulators of Western public morality; and when art, architecture, philosophical inquiry and scientific invention went through periods of massive, revolutionary change.
The West was rebuilt on the ruins of an empire and emerged from a state of crisis and collapse to dominate the world. Every sphere of human life and activity was transformed in the thousand years covered by Powers and Thrones. As we face a critical turning point in our own millennium, Dan Jones shows that how we got here matters more than ever.

Cute and high quality
Color: Cream
I love this purse- I have it in cream and gold. It looks high quality and has held up well with lots of use. Big enough to fit a decent amount of things inside.

Absolutely beautiful!
Color: Brown, Color: Brown
I needed a purse for my brown/orange colors to use occasionally. I returned a black one from a different company but I loved the gold handle. I saw this and realized it was perfect! I like the shape of this handle and the texture/color better anyway. Not too big or small, beautiful color and the magnets are great. There’s a zipper compartment inside. The chain is pretty sturdy but it’s removable and you can attach a different handle/strap if you’d like
I love the look as I’ve got two Brahmin bags . The texture prevents being to see any small scratches and you can just wipe it off with a damp cloth
I’ll carry it with the chain inside but don’t know if I’ll use it. People complain about the quality but seriously? It’s a $30 bag! I think it’s a great value myself. It’s sturdy enough to keep looking very nice and functional for a long time.. If you’re looking for a small clutch, this isn’t it, but it’s not too big either. I love it !

BEAUTIFUL clutch purse! I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
Color: Green
The craftsmanship of the clutch purse is fabulous. The color is a bit darker green and not the obnoxious grass green color. The crocodile pattern is stylish and the finish is shiny and reflects light. The interior is cloth and has a spacious inner zippered compartment on one side. The zipper moves freely. There is an included shoulder chain which attaches on the inside of the clutch.
My only negative issue is the plastic wrapping on top of the handles. The plastic was anchored UNDER the metal handles. This yielded some difficulty to get the torn parts of plastic out from under the handles. I only used my fingernails and was able to coax most of it out. I'm hesitant to use any kind of tool to get the remaining plastic film out. The shine on the outside of the bag makes most of the plastic bits unrecognizable.
I got this clutch purse for Christmas time. It will hold my lip stick, wallet, keys, and phone just fine. I doubt it would hold much else. But I'm OK with that. I don't carry much stuff with me anyways.
