When I think of lips I think of the sensitivity that we have when we touch something with our lips. It is a very particular feeling. It is soft and delicate, just like a butterfly's wings. I saw the butterfly's wings as a metaphor for human lips, and so I created my own version of nature’s butterfly for the first time in rendering this artwork. I wanted to express sensitivity, femininity, and romanticism through the use of butterflies. I was surprised by the excited response to my butterflies. Since then I have added more and more butterflies, not just to Burning Lips, but to hundreds of my artworks.
