The Shure Beta BETA 181/KIT is an ultra-compact, high-precision small-diaphragm condenser microphone designed for discreet placement in both live environments and controlled studio spaces. Its tiny profile makes it ideal for situations where visibility matters or where mic placement needs to be precise without drawing attention. Built for reliability, the Beta 181 family delivers transparent, detailed capture across a wide range of sources—from drum overheads and percussion to piano, guitar cabinets, choir rooms, and broadcast settings. The KIT version emphasizes quick setup and flexible deployment, ensuring engineers and performers can achieve professional results with less friction during sound checks and performances.

Key to the Beta 181’s versatility is its interchangeable capsule capability. The microphone ships with four selectable pickup patterns—cardioid, supercardioid, omnidirectional, and bidirectional—allowing you to tailor the mic’s polar response to the acoustics of your space and the character of your source. This enables a single mic to handle multiple roles: a room-friendly omnidirectional for natural ambience, a tight cardioid for stage isolation, a beaming supercardioid for loud environments, or a figure-8/bidirectional pattern for stereo or Blumlein-style setups. In practice, this flexibility translates into fewer mics on the rack, faster setups, and new creative options for your live or studio sessions. The mic’s electret condenser design contributes to a balanced, detailed response with clean high-frequency extension and responsive transients, ensuring that the smallest sonic clues—like the snap of a finger or the breath of a brush—are captured with fidelity.

Discreet by design, the Beta 181 is purpose-built for environments where visibility and space are at a premium. You can mount it on a drum kit, place it on a piano lid, position it near a guitar cabinet, or use it as a discreet room mic without drawing attention away from the performance. The electronic design emphasizes low noise and high dynamic range, so you won’t sacrifice signal quality when capturing loud hit sounds, crowd noise, or dense musical passages. The mic’s rugged construction and reliable connectors make it suitable for touring, studio work, and broadcast applications alike. For engineers who demand flexibility and speed, the Beta 181/KIT provides a streamlined path from setup to mix, with consistent results across different venues and recording configurations.

Whether you’re recording in a home studio, miking a drum set for a live track, or capturing intimate vocal takes, the Beta 181/KIT offers a combination of compact size, robust build, and adaptable pickup patterns that can elevate your sound with minimal footprint. The kit version is designed to be mount-ready and field-friendly, with thoughtful provisions that support quick placement, secure mounting, and reliable performance throughout a performance or session. In short, this mic is a practical tool for performers and engineers who need professional-grade sound without compromising on space, aesthetics, or ease of use.

  • Ultra-compact, discreet design for on-stage and in-studio placement, ideal for drums, percussion, pianos, amps, choir rooms, and hidden miking scenarios where visibility must be minimized.
  • Interchangeable capsule options deliver four pickup patterns—cardioid, supercardioid, omnidirectional, and bidirectional—allowing precise pattern control to suit room acoustics, source position, and isolation requirements.
  • Electret condenser construction provides clear, detailed high-frequency response and fast transient capture, enabling natural reproduction of sources with excellent sensitivity and dynamic range.
  • Kit configuration emphasizes quick setup, rugged mounting options, and flexible deployment for both live performances and studio sessions.
  • Durable build quality, reliable XLR connection, and compatibility with standard mic preamps and phantom power, making it a dependable workhorse for touring rigs, broadcast setups, and project studios alike.

how to install Shure Beta BETA 181/KIT

  • Unbox and inspect the kit to ensure you have the microphone, interchangeable capsules, mounting hardware, and any included accessories; confirm you have a standard XLR cable and access to a microphone preamp with phantom power.
  • Choose the appropriate capsule pattern for your source and environment. For example, use cardioid or supercardioid for close-miked sources with foreground isolation, or omnidirectional for room ambience and a natural soundstage.
  • Attach the selected capsule securely to the microphone body according to Shure's guidelines for capsule seating; verify that the capsule is firmly seated and locked in place before use.
  • Mount the microphone on the selected stand, clip, or mount adapter. Adjust the angle and distance so the pickup pattern optimizes proximity to the source while reducing bleed from other instruments or stage noise.
  • Connect the microphone’s XLR output to a suitable mic preamp or audio interface. Enable phantom power on the preamp (typically 48V) and set the input gain to a conservative starting level to avoid clipping.
  • Perform a quick soundcheck: play or sing at a typical performance level, listen back, and adjust gain, placement, and pattern selection as needed. If using a room or ambient setting, consider lowering the microphone’s proximity to the source to capture more natural ambience.
  • Fine-tune the system: if needed, use a high-pass filter to control rumble and stage noise, and adjust EQ to compensate for room acoustics. Re-check after any changes in stage setup or venue acoustic conditions.
  • When finished, store the microphone in its protective case and re-check capsule seating and mounting hardware to ensure everything remains secure for transport or next use.

Simple & effective- Cold brew right at home!
Size: 64 Ounces, Color: Gray
This glass cold brew jar is exactly what I was looking for. It works really well, and I love that I can make cold brew at home instead of stopping out or buying expensive premade coffee from the store — it definitely saves money. I also love that it comes with an oversized pipe cleaner to ensure you get all of this grounds out of the screen when you’re washing it. The only small improvement is the filter screen. It works well overall, but a few minimal grounds do get through. Overall, simple, effective, and a great way to make cold brew at home.

Perfect Kit For Cold Brew Coffee or Teas
Size: 32 Ounces, Color: Gray
I make coffee many different ways and have been doing cold brew in a regular mason jar without a filter. I just got this set up and am very pleased. The kit comes with a thick glass mason jar of good quality, a filter basket and a lid that fits on top of a wide mouth mason jar. The lid has a sturdy handle attached to it and a secure pour spout with its own snap tight cover. This is a perfect set up for cold brewing coffee. I filled the jar with water and secured the lid. I shook it up and turned it upside down and there were no leaks so it will be safe from accidental tip overs. If you are looking for an easy way to make cold brew coffee then I strongly recommend this simple set up. It is shaped just like a regular Mason jar with a pour spout lid so it can fit almost anywhere a Mason jar will fit. This also looks to be good for making small batches of sun tea with loose leaf tea. Enjoy!

So close to perfect.
Size: 64 Ounces, Color: Orange
I'm enjoying the hell outa this. On my third batch in a week. No, you don't really need one to make cold brew. You could probably scrounge up everything you need in a reasonably well-stocked kitchen. But it really makes things so much easier. And it cleans up nicely. I might even buy another (I drink a lot of ice coffee in the summer). The ONLY drawback is the cheap, plastic screw-on lid. I don't trust it. I'd pay $10 bucks more for a metal lid. So, we'll take one star back.
