BISON COMPOST

Brewing Teas to Top Dressing

Bison Brew is the best compost for brewing tea, mixing in media, and growing mushrooms: made 100% by American Bison and aged for at least 2 years to the point of fungal dominance.  Bison are the largest bovine with the most diverse microbial communities, far superior to cows. Naturally high in carbon and contains numerous minerals including Calcium, Magnesium, Iron, and Zinc. Everyone loves brewing compost teas because it is fun and they work so well to boost overall plant health.

Bison compost is know to have 30% more IMO(indigenous microorganisms) than for example cow compost. This 30% increase equates to the effectiveness going up 500-600% because diversity and redundancy are more important and harder to achieve in natural systems than any other factor.

Good water-holding capacity: The organic nature of Bison manure enables it to retain moisture, ensuring that the substrate remains adequately hydrated throughout the cultivation process. Maintaining consistent moisture levels is crucial for all growth.

Certain mushroom varieties grow with bovine manure. Bison Brew is an excellent addition to mushroom growing substrates acting as the coevolved food source. The amount requited varies depending on the particular type.

We have numerous testimonials of 2-6" of growth in one 24 hour period after applying the compost tea. This is due to the fact that the compost tea process accelerates the activation of all the living organisms in the compost and gets them into the most active state to process and distribute nutrients back to your plants. Additionally, the natural humid and fulvic acids and all the macro, micro, and trace minerals become soluble and more bioavailable right upon introduction. Harness the spirit of the buffalo that built the fertility of our American soils, making it the bread basket of the world that it is today.

How to Brew:

It is recommended to make a 24 hour aerated compost tea for plants in the vegetative phase, and make a 48 hour aerated compost tea for plants in the boom phase. Use immediately after the recommended interval, at this point dilute at a rate of 1:1 all the way up to 1:50 (For example: a 5 gallon brew is added to another 5 gallons of water all the way up to 250 gallons of water and immediately drenched or sprayed on the plants). You use it immediately because the living organisms that have been awoken are at a peak level and need to be unleashed into their new environment so they can thrive and set up the ideal environment for nutrient exchange with your plants/soil. Any extra- put it out on your favorite plants outside, any tree or even grass will benefit immensely.

Brew instructions (scale this to however many gallons you are brewing):

5 gallons water

1-2 cups Bison Brew

2 TBS unsulfured Molasses

Optional boost: 2 TBS Grease Gold(or any color Label), 2-4 TBS Blue Grease, 2-4 TBS Alfa Grease, 2-3 cups aged wood chips (preferably deciduous softwood or hardwood)

The duration of an AACT (Aerated Compost Tea) is influenced by various environmental factors, including temperature, humidity, and pressure. These factors play a crucial role in determining the ideal conditions for microbial activity and nutrient availability within the tea. Warmer temperatures typically accelerate the growth and reproduction of beneficial microorganisms, leading to a shorter brew time. Similarly, higher humidity levels promote microbial activity and nutrient extraction, further impacting the duration of the brewing process. Additionally, the pressure applied during aeration affects the rate at which microbes multiply and the extraction of nutrients from the compost. As a result of these environmental influences, the AACT can reach its peak harvest time somewhere between 12 to 48 hours, during which it is rich in beneficial microorganisms and nutrients, ready to be applied to the soil to promote healthy plant growth.

The presence of bubbles and foam on the surface of an AACT (Aerated Compost Tea) is often seen as an indicator of peak microbial growth. The formation of bubbles is a result of the aeration process, which promotes the proliferation of beneficial microorganisms in the tea. While the appearance of bubbles and foam can signify active microbial activity, it is essential to understand that they are not the sole determinants of the tea's completion. The optimal duration for AACT brewing varies based on environmental conditions and the composition of the compost used. Instead of relying solely on the presence of bubbles, it is best to consider other factors such as brew time, water color, and odor to determine when the AACT is fully matured and ready for application. A comprehensive assessment of these characteristics ensures that the AACT is at its peak effectiveness, containing a diverse population of beneficial microorganisms and nutrient-rich components for plant growth.

Top Dress or Mixing Instructions:

Apply 1-2 TBS evenly on top of the soil and scratch into the first 1-2" of soil. Water as you normally do and reapply every 2-3 weeks depending on the size of the plant. Larger plants may require more frequent intervals, and larger doses.

Attention farmers and dedicated front yard and backyard gardeners: Bison Brew grows nutrient dense foods that improve health and disease resistance when consumed. This is an amazing garden amendment due to its ability to increase organic matter percentage in the soil and provide all the trace nutrients that are bound to carbon in the plant and become available as phytonutrients for the human body. Excellent for improving the quality of alfalfa, corn and other feed crops as well. Quality in equals quality out. We take the time to age and turn our buffalo compost to fungal dominant perfection. It contains your macronutrients in a balanced NPK of 1-1-1 as well a rich source of secondary micronutrients and trace elements. The biodiversity of organisms and high mineral content including iron, calcium, magnesium, and zinc. This leads to the proper life in the soil that can spoon feed these essential nutrients to the plant at a constant rate for the fastest growth and best naturally enhanced immune system through the production of secondary plant metabolites and terpenes.

Mushrooms

Using bovine (Bison) manure in mushroom growing substrate offers several benefits that contribute to the successful cultivation of mushrooms. Here are the main advantages:

  1. Nutrient-rich: Bovine manure is a valuable source of nutrients, particularly nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, which are essential for mushroom growth. These nutrients support the mycelium's development and subsequent fruiting body formation.
  2. pH buffering: Bison manure has a pH that typically ranges from slightly acidic to slightly alkaline. This pH range can buffer the substrate, preventing drastic shifts in acidity during the mushroom growing process, which is favorable for the growth of many mushroom species.
  3. Low cost: Bovine manure is inexpensive considering it is composted aggressively in a wind row tractor turned system for 2 years before it is ready for sale.
  4. Versatility: Bison manure can be used alone or in combination with other substrates to create customized mixes suitable for different mushroom species. This versatility allows growers to adjust the substrate's composition to meet the specific requirements of various mushrooms.

It's important to note that while bison manure has numerous benefits, it needs to be properly prepared and pasteurized before use in mushroom cultivation. Pasteurization is a critical step to eliminate potential harmful pathogens and competing microorganisms that could hinder mushroom growth.

Different mushroom species have specific substrate requirements, so it's essential to research and understand the needs of the particular mushroom variety you are cultivating. Additionally, maintaining proper environmental conditions, such as temperature and humidity, is essential for successful mushroom cultivation regardless of the substrate used.

"It's no bullshit"

Brewing AACT (Aerated Compost Tea) with Bison compost and molasses can offer several benefits when used as a soil amendment and foliar spray for plants. Here are some potential advantages of this brewing process:

  1. Nutrient Availability: Brewing AACT with bison compost and molasses helps extract and multiply beneficial microorganisms from the compost. These microorganisms break down organic matter and release nutrients in a plant-available form. When applied to the soil or used as a foliar spray, AACT enhances nutrient availability, promoting healthier plant growth and development.
  2. Soil Microbial Diversity: AACT is rich in beneficial microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and protozoa. These microorganisms contribute to the diversity and balance of the soil microbiome. By introducing them to the soil, AACT helps establish a thriving microbial community that supports nutrient cycling, improves soil structure, and enhances overall soil health.
  3. Disease Suppression: The beneficial microorganisms present in AACT can help suppress soil-borne diseases and pathogens. They compete with harmful organisms for resources and space, reducing the risk of plant infections. This can contribute to disease prevention and reduce the need for chemical pesticides or fungicides.
  4. Improved Nutrient Uptake: AACT enhances the root zone by improving soil structure and nutrient availability. The microorganisms in AACT create a symbiotic relationship with plant roots, aiding in nutrient absorption and uptake. This can lead to increased nutrient uptake efficiency and improved plant health.
  5. Enhanced Plant Immunity: AACT can stimulate the plant's natural defense mechanisms, strengthening its immune system. The beneficial microorganisms in the tea produce compounds that activate the plant's defense responses, making it more resilient to stress, diseases, and pest attacks.
  6. Organic and Sustainable Approach: Brewing AACT with bison compost and molasses aligns with organic and sustainable gardening practices. It provides a natural and eco-friendly alternative to synthetic fertilizers and chemical treatments. AACT supports a healthy and balanced ecosystem in the soil, promoting long-term soil fertility and sustainability.

Sweet story with likable characters
Format: Paperback
This book is an easy, engaging read with two characters who feel real and fun to follow. I especially loved the gay characters and their storylines. They are written with warmth and honesty, and their relationship gives the book a lot of heart. The pacing moves well, and the mix of light and emotional moments keeps you pulled in. If you enjoy character driven stories with genuine charm, this is a great pick.

Such a fun book
Format: Hardcover
This was such a cute and quick read. I loved both Arthur and Ben's characters because they were so different, but just so great together. I can really relate to both of them - Arthur's high fast energy and Ben's constant doubt in himself. I especially loved watching how the two of them grew because of the other, without even realizing it. Watching these two find each other and try to navigate the beginning of a relationship was so adorable and pulled my heartstrings. I love that it wasn't perfect or easy for them, which seemed so real. I also like that this book didn't just focus on this one relationship, but also contrasted to other relationships, both romantic and platonic of their friends. It shows that no relationship is predictable, easy or perfect. The writing was wonderful and though Arthur and Ben's narratives were very distinct, I couldn't tell that this was written by two authors instead of one. The story flowed so nicely and had so many ups and downs that I was filled with emotion. Though this was not a "traditional" happy ending, it was still a happy one that had me smile. It was a bit open ended so I am content to imagine my own future for these wonderful characters.

"I just think you're meant to meet some people. I think the universe nudges them into your path."
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
There is something magical about this time of year. I spent the last couple of days eating way too much food, shopping for gifts, and decorating the house for the holidays. And though this year required us to do things differently than we have in years past, those holiday traditions still bring the same amount of magic that they always have. One of my favorite things to do this time of year is to curl up next to the fire with a good book. The Texas weather finally brought us winter this weekend, so I decided to take full advantage and finish reading What If It's Us. This cute love story was the perfect way to kick off the holiday season. Arthur is soaking up every moment of his summer internship in New York. The soon-to-be high school senior is completely committed to taking in all of the sights and sounds of the city life, even if that means neglecting the duties of his job. Today though, his internship has sent him on a mission that allows him to fulfill both of his desires. Today, he's been tasked with dropping off work documents at the post office. Yes, this is just a simple errand, but the city is ripe with adventure and opportunity. Ben is at the post office for an entirely different reason. He's got a box full of stuff that belongs to his ex-boyfriend. The breakup is still so fresh and difficult that Ben can't bear to even see his ex. Having all of this stuff that reminds him of the relationship isn't helping either. It makes sense to just mail it all back to him and rid himself of that part of his life for good. As you can imagine, fate has other plans. Ben and Arthur meet in line at the post office and have a really cute conversation. The spark between the two is undeniable, but then they are separated. Was this just a chance encounter meant to fill that small moment of time, or is this something more? You'll have to read to find out. I was so drawn into the story and characters that it is almost impossible for me to objectively comment on this book. In What If It's Us co-authors Becky Albertalli (of Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda fame) and Adam Silvera deliver the kind of meet-cute YA romance that you'll have a hard time putting down. I don't normally read this genre, so I was a bit apprehensive at first. As I started reading, I couldn't help but find little pieces of myself in each of the characters. There's something about navigating the final years as a teenager that is universally relatable. Take away the fact that the main characters are gay (this story could have been equally effective with a heterosexual couple), and you are still left with a story that is just too compelling to not read. Is this a great work of literature that will be touted for its prose and structure? Of course not. But there's so much about What If It's Us to like about that you won't mind the little things that would normally detract from a novel. A sequel has recently been announced, and I really can't wait to read more about these characters.
